lol, don't be fooled by comments.. yes, the actual salary should have been 13+, but since you have such low salary to begin you can't ask for such a high salary.. max you can ask for 40% hike or go n study MBA to remove your previous salary barrier then you can ask for 24CTC

That ain't true. This is a myth. Not all companies think like this of offering new pay based on previous.
As long as you have skills that they need, you should always and always ask based on what is the market rate for those skills

+1 for this most companies do have bands for sde1 sde2 . If op gets selected for sde2 then he might be offered lower base pay of sde2.

If you're joining another company:

Product based - ask for base salary of 25 lpa or more. 25lpa + RSUs or ESOPs. They will give because I feel your current salary is lower.

Service based - Ask for 100% hike from your current salary.

These comments are delusional nobody will give you 20lpa except reputed companies and funded startups. And for rest companies you should mention 10lpa atleast. Trust me they'll lowball you even down. Get multiple simultaneous offers then you control negotiations else stick with company caliber else be assured 10lpa is solid base.

And why canā€™t OP go to one of those companies which will pay him 20? Fwiw at L4 swe level you can also get 50, thatā€™s mid band for most of big tech L4.

At least 17 lpa( based on the current salary of my friend who has the same experience as you

Depends on the company try to do some research on their bands. Try to ask towards top of that. No point in asking for X amount if they donā€™t pay that much for your level. If you canā€™t find any info on their bands ask for atleast 100% hike and then you can go from there.

For the people who are saying 20lpa is delusional, see you can get 20 base if you apply to product based startups and you are good with your dsa and backend skills.
What I am trying to say is don't quote less in the early phase of talks, tell and prove it to them that you know your shit and let them interview you first.

Once you have an offer of let's say 12 lpa then use it to get 15 then 18. My point is at 2.5 years of work ex 20 lakhs is not hard

Bro you can easily get 15lpa+ SWITCH

Because your experience is low, you should ask for 15 lpa as fixed for product based companies.

If service based, then ask for 8 lpa fixed.

The market rate should be upwards of 15 LPA, but it'll be hard for you to ask that much directly because your current is low. You will need to start with the highest salary your current one can get you, that should be somewhere around 10-12. Then use that offer to ask more.
