The top IT firm in Chandigarh is Infosys. You’re free to make your assumptions based on that and they’d most likely be true. It is a beautiful city but no so much options for tech roles.

Why is Chandigarh not able to attract IT Companies? Any idea? I saw multiple SEZs there, some closed down, some opened and waiting for companies to come, I mean they ready-to-move space for companies, and yet hardly any big company is moving there. Why?

Recently, I've been observing a concerning trend that I haven't observed before in my 5 years in this industry. 

A large no. of job openings are coming up at mid-sized companies and startups that require 5+ years of experience but pay 7-12 LPA. One of these companies even used to pay a decent more when I'd applied to it a few years before

Does anyone have insights on the root causes behind this trend and how it will shape up the job market going forward?

My hypotheses on root causes:-
(1) Bad job market
(2) Advent of AI

The stupidity and arrogance of some leaders in some companies to use colleges as filter criteria for what is clearly irrelevant for the role. 

Mostly these idiots end up fucking up company after company creating these neo-casteist groups sucking off and living off each other.

This identity based hiring is the start of corporate politics. I still don’t understand how difficult it is for fucking idiots to understand that while hiring for most roles you have to encourage diverse backgrounds at the start of the process to help you hire the right candidate for the long term, specially in a startup. 

PS I’m not against preferring candidates from certain colleges if it’s relevant. What i do hate is this herd behaviour of trying to hire only from your alumni the moment you are given leadership roles.

It must be such shitty experience to work under idiots like these if you are not from their alumni colleges because their biases play into all evaluations they do about their teams.

This is pretty common, has been like that for ages. It’s their company and their rules. You also have the freedom to NOT apply. Maybe they have had better experiences with candidates from top tier universities. Remember getting into most tier 1 colleges is itself difficult and only top talent make it. Also get better academic infrastructure, exposure to alumni networks, etc. So there are high chances they will do well. 
  
 Doesn’t mean that candidates from non-tier1 universities can’t excel. Some can be equally good or even better. Maybe these guys don’t want to take a chance with this role.

Then worked in a startup, my role there is software engineer in name only, the work I do is more like that of an SDET/QA, literally wrote very little code till now

What can I do to save my career? Why do companies scam so much? There is so little overlap between JD and actual work

Not getting good quality work as a Software Engineer

I dont know whether there are any good IT companies in chandigarh, or I have to move out!
I already worked at SourceFuse for 5 yesrs and Grazitti Interactive, currently working in code brew labs. 
 At SourceFuse culture has changed a lot, Principal Architect had unprofessional work ethics,
 In grazitti(searchunify department) which was known as one of the best companies among tricity fired some people by putting on PIPs (including me), by very small reasons like more bugs(which i already fixed before PIP), coming a bit late to office but not everytime (like 15-20 mins) but without impacting the actual work, they talked too much discipline but didnt focus much on how we can improve the product, and whenever I improved, they didnt appreciate it.
At code brew labs, the experience wasnt much bad excpet for the team downsizing of third unicorn (ceo’s collaboration with ashneer grover), currently going okay and appreiciated for my efforts but salary was bit reduced while working at thier blockchain department!


I have shared some of my experiences, what do you think, should  I move out? actually I have 3 months of bond left

The infra, schools and hospitals here are better then what i get in my area in Pune

He is thinking about switching to a new company with some benefits on priority. He is good in problem solving and a knight on  leet code.

1. Hire engineers in the 4th semester from tier 2 colleges.
2. Train them for 6 months in software development by inducing a full time position with an attractive salary once after a full time conversation. Training is Most probably self learning .
3. Pay peanuts during training time as low as 5000 rs per month. Till he completes the college degree i e 15 months after employment.
4. after 6 months of training search leads by inflating the experience of their profile in Indian software companies. And bill them with 50x of what they are getting as a stipend.
5. Earn fat and easy once the person graduates the college lays them off stating the economic situation .
6. Then repeat the same process again with another set of college students.
7. Now laid off graduates are in a position where they can't even show the experience which they gained during their work since it is not done in a full time role. No experience certificate from the employer.
8. Then goes back to a job search as a fresher

Seriously contemplating moving out of Bangalore after being here for last 5 years.

 much peaceful compared to Bangalore and work culture is way better than my experiences in Bangalore.  
 Festival celebrations are just amazing and no bad experiences since past 1.5 yr 
 Congestion is piling up this city just like BLR, as a lot of tech companies are gearing up for new offices and new tech parks are already under construction - specifically KHARADI area and they say almost 1.5 lac IT jobs will open up in the next 3-4 years.  
 Traffic woes are same,but again depends on the which part you stay - as we have similar deadlock junctions in Pune as well, if compared to BLR.
