That's fine, but they should have mentioned all this in the JD no? Mentioned something else, making me do something entirely different 
  
 I tried doing side initiatives, but there isn't enough support

I'm pretty much sure that, somewhere in the process, they would have mentioned about role expectations changing based on requirements. 
  
 Also, for the side project, no enough support is a very bad reason

I'm working here in automation but framework is company built and I'm feeling like I'm learning nothing

But these DSA and everything scare me I'm good to nothing
And I don't see a scope in Quality Engineering
And I have a student loan to pay of its of sum around 8 Lakhs
I want to switch to a high paying job
Because I live with my family
I pay rent 15k Sister takes care of groceries and stuff
I need high pay job but I feel I'm good to no where
What should I do please, tell me how to handle stuff
Sometimes I panic and cry alone

Quality Engineer is Good or Bad

I am a software engineer with 3 years of experience .For the first two initial years I was working as a QA in one of the good product companies with a very sorted work life balance .
I had recently switched to a BE role in a startup 
I am very much lagging behind here because of my QA background  ,the people here are very much talented and are great problem solvers .How do I reach that level ?
I have been  struggling to keep up with the pace here and finding it difficult to approach the tasks,even though i have been giving so much of time to work .
And the TL  in my team have a certain amount of expectations and hence they don't help according to that .(which i feel is fair)
How should I approach this  and level up here 
Anyone with a similar background and story please share your experience :)

This is a call for every software engineer and broader community. 
I’m a 30 year old customer support employee who worked at Airtel, MPL, Wazirx and I have 5 years of total experience all things customer support. 

About a year ago, laid off at Wazirx due to crypto taxes and regulations and it’s been an uphill battle to find a steady job in the market. 

Did few freelance jobs but nothing is working out. I’m at a point where I’m unable to even get by on monthly basis. 

I’m a Engg dropout as well, so no degree, no real top notch experience to land other roles. 

I finally decided to have a crack at software jobs and pivot to whole new field. I have few queries, if anyone can find some time and answer them, it would mean the world to me 

1. Do I need a degree to land software roles ? 
2. To pivot to coding roles ( no prior experience), where should i start ?
3. There’s an ocean of misinformation out there, I’m really confused on where to start and which courses to take up? ( Planning to take up Phyton ) 
4. Can coding help to land freelance jobs ( I know it’s difficult and takes time to reach good enough of a level but I’m willing to work hard and put the hours in ). 
5. I know companies doesn’t bet on candidates without a degree but what’s the best way to approach this scenario?

Hey fellow devs,

I'm a software engineer and I'm getting tired of the disconnect between the skills recruiters expect and the skills actually required for the job.

In my daily work, I solve problems that are mostly straightforward and don't require extreme problem-solving skills. But whenever I apply for a new role or get approached by recruiters, they always ask for "expert-level" problem-solving abilities, even when the product or service doesn't seem to demand it.

It feels like they're looking for someone to solve world hunger, when in reality, the job is more about maintaining and improving existing systems.

Has anyone else experienced this? Am I just being too salty, or is this a real phenomenon?

Software Engineering: Where 'Good Enough' Isn't Good Enough for Recruiters

I have been working as a software developer for the past 4 years mostly on startups. Pay is good(top 10%) no issues while working everything good in work life no problems. But there is always a feeling that I am not good at basic understanding of development I feel it is because  I didn't go to any IIT or any other major colleges or didn't study for any particular exams. I just learned everything by doing it not by preparing beforehand. There is fear that maybe that's not always enough which makes me a little bit afraid of giving interviews of big tech companies.
So I am not able to decide where I should go from here. Should I start with  masters or should I just learn everything I can from basics to have a solid understanding or maybe some other path.

I am working as SDE 1 in a good Indian startup. It's getting toxic day by day. Late night workings like 3AM and working on weekends is normalised like anything. Since I am new to IT ( no sort of politics never) and have almost 2.5 Years of experience, I am facing issues in getting credits. Last appraisal cycle in January, I was nominated for promotion but wasn't given to me, reason: you have not worked with architect and he was making decisions. In that case, architect should have been distributed tasks to us. 

one SDE3 is leading one of the projects ( not a big one ) and manager/architect is not much interested and never join any standup or retro, I have contributed immensely to that. Now since it is completely driven by sde 3 , he takes updates from us and show his work infront of seniors and director + announces like his work and seldom we get thank you in threads. Like if you did one function or wrote complete flow, for both thank you. Because of all these reasons, my work is not getting recognised. There is no one in team to help in this. 

Whenever a manager or Architect show cases some features or release, it's pretty evident that his team has done it but when a sde 3 does it, it is not the same. It conveys the message all or 90% work is done by him. 

I would like to take some suggestions from my seniors and fellow mates here.

I want to switch because - 

1. Salary is less (9lpa).

2. Here they only focus on new features not code quality and optimization.

3. I want to work on scale

Im getting a little frustrated. I'm good a development, and I can be better, but right now I'm focusing on DSA.
I have done around 250+ quality questions on leetcode.
Tech stack I know and write in resume

Reactjs, Nodejs, NextJs, Docker, Kafka, Redis, Postgresql, MySQL, Javascript, Typescript, Java

I took resume reviews, and they are mostly very positive.
Still I'm not getting any interview calls, and No-one has asked me any DSA yet.

Feeling a bit frustrated and directionless

I was working  as head of data and analytics in  Zepto , Swiggy , flipkart now is razorpay. 
I felt work is of very poorly quality in most Indian startup , no idea of kpi, useless machine learning model , no investment in infrastructure. I think no point in joining any Indian startup as very few founder value data 
Now I have worked in Walmart and Citibank , core strategic decisions  happens in USA and headquarters so Indian office is only pleasing the hq with support work 
Now analytics service like tiger fractal again work is to do sales bring any work and add to top line 
Witch company even more shit show 
So I am delusional and thinking of quitting the data and analytics  field or build something of my own 
Data and Ai in India is just to show off and get investor money and load the pnl without return

Hi everyone, I was working for a startup for about 1.5 years and I was doing quite well. then my mind thought of exploring other industries so I quit my job and started looking for jobs in other industries and landed on one after 3 months of quitting. And that company was not open to learning or engaging anything apart from my JD and I was not happy as I was working only for an hour of the day (basically I was doing nothing). It was frustrating as I was paying 200 for auto everyday for doing nothing so I left that job and started looking for jobs and this next company was supposed to be a game changer in my career but it was toxic I told my manager how I feel about it and he convinced me that I'll be working only with him. But that one day everything crossed the limit. And I left that job in 4 months. 

Now, why can't I say this directly in my interviews?? Why do I have to lie about why I switched jobs. I can't  say directly "no learning opportunities or no growth or toxic environment in previous companies". 

This is so frustrating, I've applied for more than 200 companies in the last 2 months and I've nothing. 🤕

Huh! So i resigned from my job without any job offer. I am not sure if this is right/wrong, dumb decision maybe but i was at my saturation point. I joined this organisation as APM in April 2024 and resigned in September end, almost a 6 months of journey. This was a fast faced startup with a lot of micromanagement and toxicity. My manager was an asshole. There was a time when i was filling time sheets which was just to justify my manager. Imagine a product manager filling time sheet who is already involved in multiple small and large discussion with tech,qa, marketing, operations etc. The shift was of 9 hours and he asks me to stretch to 10 hrs sometimes as he as a bad habbit of same. There is much more. One day due to an instance i decided to resign without any job offer. My family did supported me which also gave me the confidence to do so. I don’t know what to say to next companies. When will I get a new job. Just wanted to share this somewhere and thought of putting it up here. Open for all your thoughts and comments. Also,Let me know if anybody could help me in any referrals😅preferably in Delhi ncr- Hybrid/wfh.

Been working with a pre series A level startup for about 3 years being my first job. Paid about 20-25lpa for a full stack role. Engineering + product team is still single digit strength as we are not pureplay tech company. 

Had a great learning because of a good manager and 0-1 kind of work we did but I am starting to feel stagnated because of following reasons

1. We don't have anything like SDE1, 2 etc because there are very few devs. 1 manager and everyone else is an SDE. The company doesn't intend to hire more for at least an year.. so i won't see any title level promotion or any role that feels senior despite being around for a while

2. Salary. Want to know if I am behind the standard pay because i belong to tier 1.5ish college. Big tech seems to pay more for 3yrs workex as usually people become sde2 by then

To people who choose to stay in India, what made you stay? 🪷

For me it was the army and followed by my corporate job. I never felt like leaving the country. It’s always better to live like a first class citizen in a 3rd world country than a third class citizen in a first world country. 
  
 In addition to this, family is what defines us as Indians and that kept me hinged back home

I've done my Btech in EC from NIT. Worked for 2Y as a dev in IT Services co. Then I did my MBA from one of the old IIMs. 
Got placed as a "Consultant" in one IT services co, where JD said the role is client facing and business centric. Have been working here for close to 2Y. Basically I'm part of an Agile project team, as another Dev/QA resource. I basically do QA for project releases and occasional SQL scripting. Tried internally to switch to a Project/BA role but this experience is hindering me. Outside it's even worse as I don't even get shortlisted.
I believe I have good skills to excel in Product/BA/Project roles. But not getting them as I don't have any prior experience. My confidence is very low now and my career seems to go nowhere.

The pay is also worse, 21.6LPA currently ( of which 17.6 is fixed). I'm not complaining and this money is a lot for most people. But it's not even close to what my juniors after 2 batches earn. 

The only upside in my job is no pressure and can work remotely most days.

What should I do ?
Shall I learn AI/ML and move to an Individual Contributor role ? How to get shortlisted for these after prep?

Any advice or leads would be helpful, TIA.
