So I am working at a startup for around a year now. Everyday I see, it feels, what am I really doing? Where is the life headed? 
    Doing bare minimum or doing your tasks and fucking off isn't enough. It's expected that we outgrow constantly, as if it's this work that we can always think about and nothing else. At the end, am wondering if it's still worth it?
    1 day it feels that let's just quit it! Next day I feel, okay, I do want the money. 

I ain't looking for suggestions here, just wanted to see if anyone else felt this way

The startup is only 2 yrs old with seed funding. 2 pivots, but none worked. The 3rd pivot is interesting and we still don't know if it'll work 


I want to understand the life of an Early employee, how do you manage to keep hope, or when to call it quits?

When to quit an early stage startup

I worked at an early stage startup with really toxic culture and left my job because of that, now it's been one month I just wake up eat and sleep and feel like doing nothing, Although I know at some point I have to resume back but when ever I sit back to document my work prepare my portfolio I just feel no motivation to do so, Is something wrong with me?? Has anyone faced something like this before? How did you come out of it?

"For the part-time role, we require 20 hours of work per week, and for full-time, we expect 40 hours of work per week.

We are currently raising Seed to launch our product, and while the challenge is significant, the impact you can make is also substantial. Currently, none of our team members receive a salary and work for future equity, and you would be in the same situation. However, as we raise more funds (which we have already started to do), we plan to pay market wages. This is standard practice for pre-seed startups."

I'm surprised to see on the comment section that people actually support this load of crap. 

To any newbies or freshers entering tech this year, don't follow this advice. These CEOs exploit your time to gain revenue and when the time is not good they wouldn't think twice before considering layoffs. Just do your job and go home to your life and family. 

This advice only applies to entrepreneurs who have huge stakes in the company. Because if the company do well they get millions in returns as dividends. As an employee, even if you work for 25 hours you only get the same salary. 

Don't follow any so called self procalimed entrepreneurs advocating for the hustle culture. You hustle for your life, not for your boss or your job.

More push towards grind and sacrifice.

At what point is a company no longer called a startup? What factor decides this? Is it :

• Valuation
• Years active
• No of users
• No of employees
• Culture? ( general lack of bureaucracy, etc )

Or is it something else? For each trait above, several exceptions come to mind.

I am 34, BU Head at mid size startup, 1Cr+ CTC and 3Cr ESOP. Tier 1 MBA+Engg. Still 5yrs away from financial freedom. 
Startup founders who have taken similar jump what would say? Was it worth it? 
If yes, any tips on finding start up ideas.

Currently working in a startup and contributing in data science projects. Learning is good but a lot of time goes down in meetings and discussions and I have to do late night work. Everyday starts to feel like the same and I am not able to get time for extra learning to enhance my knowledge and tech stack.
Also thinking of company change but most of them need 3-4 years exp to the data science team. 😭

Feeling losted

I work in a startup, have been since the past 4 years. Earlier it was WFH, I had the liberty to work whenever I want - task had to be done. 

With experience, I've felt that my work life balance has gone for a toss. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, I feel exhaused and burnt out. This is also sucking out ownership from what I do. 

To all the GVs out here, have you guys tried doing something that's helped you? Or are we all on the same boat here? Are folks in MNCs going through the same? Genuinely seeking for help here. 

I just feel ki, I should stop running behind money now. Take a pay cut if needed and join a company thats a bit more established. 

Ps: In my case working from office seems like a total waste of time. I had been so much more productive at home.

Work life balance - Tips

I recently worked at a startup and it was terrible. 

To be honest, I still worked at one of the better ones but it just sucked. 

Some of the clear downsides I see 

- Survival mode leads to chaos. You can be treated anyway and asked to leave whenever  even though you left big opportunities to be here 
- Brand loss to find next job (Big problem)
- Trying to make you feel unworthy(Doesn't bother me but I have seen people lose self confidence)
- Loss of opportunity to build real skills like building sustainable teams for the long run

I think over all working at a startup especially early teams is a losing proposition. Do it only if -
 - you know the founders/team well 
- you know the industry and market well and it is a bet you personally believe in
- you are secure enough in life that if you go back to your job, you will easily get employed 


For middle class kids, startups are the worst bets one can take.

Is there someone (companies/startup) out there who actually give chance to people who switch their careers entirely or is it just that they settle for a minimal job and kill their aspirations?

Feeling drained

1. Fancy talks from founders such as ownership, independence, building for next generation, speed etc
2. Learn new tech
3. Glofiying working at odd hours
4. Don't talk about stress and anxiety 

Start ups are not for weak heart and normal humans who have life after work. It's only for people who will give up their life to build somone else dream. Prove me wrong.

I used to work at a product-based company, joined as a fresher worked for 2 years, it was a perfect job, in the sense that there was little to no work related stress, decent pay, and all the perks you get at a typical big product company as an SDE.

I decided to move out of my comfort zone and joined a bootstrapped startup. It sounded stupid when I left but I just wanted to experiment with working in a high-paced environment.

3 months in and I am very frustrated there is no sense of urgency even in a highly competitive space, all 3 co-founders are busy fundraising and rarely talk to us except for standups(which are also skipped regularly) most other team members(a total of 11) work like govt employees, no hunger, passion or curiosity. 

I joined because I love the problem they are solving and I am genuinely passionate about the industry and problem space but I don't even see 10% of the same passion in any of my other teammates they come in at 10 and leave by 4.

Sorry for the long rant but need genuine advice, will things change after the fundraise and as an employee how do I raise my issues with company culture with co-founders without sounding too bossy and pissing off my other teammates.
