Switching to hardware sector
I have roughly 4 years of experience in mobile engineering, specializing in native iOS and Flutter development. I currently enjoy my role and am successful in it. However, recent discussions about the IT market have prompted me to consider a career switch to VLSI, leveraging my degree in ECE and recent proficiency in electronics, honed through GATE preparation.
Has anyone made a similar career change? Any suggestions or opinions are greatly appreciated.
Do you want to change because of uncertainty in future of IT in india? What's your current ctc? There is a huge salary disparity in hardware compared to IT
2 yoe in hardware getting 28 lpa , he says there are very less people to hire. My current ctc is 18
Also the retention of employees in this sector is higher compared to IT . He did a 1 year course in maven silicon, worked for a small company that too at 9 lpa. Considering we studied in a tire 3 institution. After a year he got a job offer (without applying) from a service company .
You said u r enjoying ur role and successful in it.
If it's true my personal suggestion will be to stay in software side and upskill to reach a height.
If ur mind is more managerial than technical then join 1y mba and rejoin at 2x-3x salary.
Coming to semiconductor or vlsi industry, It's highly paid due to niche knowledge required and demand-supply game.
Physical Design, Soc level roles, Memory design, AE and Circuit r n d are few highly paid jobs in VLSI. These are comparable to sde 2 or 3 salary.
All above roles are highly demanding and need high iq with Focus. Else single mistake has huge oc
But there are many roles which are low paid also like tech writer, cad and few front end roles.
Make sure u decide as per ur skills and interest not by what market is offering.
Happiness>Money.
