Difficult to generalize. Foreigners are a lot more civilized and respectful on average. I would say a good Indian value to adhere to would be respect for elders , value of money.  A good western value to absorb is value of time , punctuality , respect for diversity.

Just curious, no need to be offended.

I see many people here talking about it. "Indian culture Indian culture" what will happen if it vanishes, don't tell me bs about "other community" or "western tradition will take over".
What will happen if our culture is not here anymore? Also isn't this kind of bs? We won't actually forget who we are, I would still boast about my great grandfather fighting for India during independence to my kids and grandkids.

Even if it vanishes in next 50 years my surname will be same for coming centuries. Even if it vanishes today, my digestive, respiratory systems and other systems would work perfectly normal. I would still remember all my gods and worship them.
So my questions are:

1. What is Indian culture for you?

2. Why is it important for you (no bs reasons like community taking over, or kids should know this, genuine reasons only please)

3. What will happen if it vanishes?

If you haven't thought about it, think deeply. Why? What? And How?

I mean seriously if our schools also start teaching kids and teenagers about gender studies, feminism, wokism, cancel culture and all that stupidity, won’t it destroy our culture. 

We were saved because we didn’t had internet and smartphones back then by while growing up. But today’s kids and upcoming generations are not lucky. Already I see many school and college girls and guys speaking with an American accent, hating our own culture, watching only American movies/shows, and dreaming to become Americanised completely. 

. I somehow feel this shit will come and grab the attention of our kids generations 5/10 years down the line. Can anything be done to prevent it?

I wonder what if woke culture, gender studies comes in India?

Dating has become the norm for relationships today, but many don't realize that it's a relatively recent development, prevalent in Western society for only about a century, and it's already causing societal issues.

Previously, Indian arranged marriages were standard (different from forced marriages). Families would arrange meetings between their daughters and another family's sons. If they liked each other, they would soon plan the wedding, marry, have sex, and start families.

Today, individuals are left to find their own partners. If you don't find someone in high school, university, or work, your chances of finding a partner diminish. There's also less incentive for marriage, as sex no longer requires marriage or even dating, leading to more people pursuing sex directly. This has created a skewed dynamic where fewer men pursue women due to competition, turning to porn instead, while women face exploitation by men who have abundant choices.

Ultimately, near 28-30 both genders rush to the arranged marriage system to get them a partner while having their feet dipped on dating apps.

In the US,
This has lead to decreased marriage rates and, consequently, lower birth rates since most births occur within marriages. A decline in families results in a decreased population, putting more pressure on younger generations to support an aging population. Western nations, therefore, rely heavily on immigration, causing additional challenges. Increased single motherhood also correlates with higher crime rates, drug use, loneliness, mental health issues, and suicides

P.S. I'm young and dating too. Just thoughts for a conversation on what the implications of dating for us as a society could be.

Dating has failed Americans, now it will fail Indians too

Your description of arranged marriages is incorrect. You are given the option that if they liked each other get got married - which was not the case in the last generation. Often times the meetings was just formality, and my own mother met father on the day of their engagement. So nope, they didn’t have the choice to see if they liked each other, their parents made that decision for them. 
  
 Now take that into today’s scenario, how many people in this generation will willingly marry someone their parents has chosen, without any say in it? None. Doesn’t matter what their income is. You yourself are dating.. why? You can ask your parents to find someone for you, if you believe their judgment. The issue is that we don’t, and people avoid admitting that cos they don’t wanna be seen as someone who disagrees with their parents. 
  
 People are free to do what they like, arrange, love, dating, single, unmarried, adoption with marriage. Literally their choice. Nothing is ruining anything, in fact the recent situation in our country, where there are no laws upheld for rich, unemployed where 40% IITians aren’t placed, religious division - are more of a concern than a person’s personal choice. My 2 cents 🙌🏻

I've had the fortune of having worked in 3 countries so far. India is by far the most exciting place to be in 2024.
But there's something about our work ethic that just concerns me. In both white and blue collar.

In most other countries, I've observed people strictly sticking to the 9 to 5, working diligently in those hours - not wasting too much time on chai sutta breaks, instagram browsing, gupshup etc.

They work for 8 hours, then leave. And think about work directly the next day.

In India, most of us spend more hours - but very obviously very few of those hours are productive. In fact, I lately feel that too many people around me are doing even 2-3 hours of work on a good day.

We end up just staying around, passing time, and then go back home. When we could have achieved so much more.

Work ethic has fallen. Work hours have gone up.

We need to be more mindful of our actions, we need to work well at work, and then do well at home.

I think it's a function of being over populated. There are 1.5-2 people doing what 1 person should be doing, hence this effect.

Needs to be fixed, it's the sign of a major problem in the workforce. Thoughts?

Disguised unemployment in India - It's all around us :/

We don't end up staying long hours because we need to. But because we have to, so that the manager doesn't feel like we leave the office by "half day".  
  Also, they have a leverage that they can shut their laptops at 5 and nobody will reach out to them. But here in India, managers do reach out for escalations, or make us attend lat evening calls because it's afternoon in Europe or morning in NA. The people sitting in Europe or NA are not made to wake up early or attend night calls to accommodate us during our actual 9-5.  
  People also chit chat etc. bcz they know for sure that they have to sit for long hours..so they need to take small breaks in the day. No one has the capacity to work 10-11 hrs without any breaks.  
  Here it would never be possible to have such a strict 9-5.

Recently while working for an Indian startup I had a terrible experience, not because the entire team was bad but just the one person, the team lead treated me like shit.
Never left an opportunity to humiliate me publically, no appreciation, no feedback, no proactive help. Just pure toxicity. Is being a good person too much to ask from seniors? 
Fortunately for me, I never derived my self worth from him else I would've killed myself by now.

I am now planning to switch companies, and I want to know how to find and gauge good people beforehand? What can I do to make sure or atleast increase the probability of me being with good people? Is this even possible?

Anyone can share any anecdotes on their startup stints and their relationships with people there is also welcome.

How to gauge good people to work for in Indian startups?

I’ve always had this question on why Indians are very stingy when it comes to paying money for premium products. I agree there are Indians especially in the young generation who aren’t shy from spending for quality products but the masses are still stuck in the bargaining or cheap mindset. 

When we look for cars the first thing we probably check is kitna mileage dega ?

When we look at a premium product we compare it to a copy or a product that does not offer the same quality or service that a premium product offers. 

What are the reasons to it and when or how can we come out of it. This is one of the reasons we have got the “slave / miser ” label outside our county and why we’ve got weak passports which make it difficult to take a vacation like citizens of other countries .

A lot of us have had the privilege to be able to go abroad, but ended up choosing not to.

For me, it was just believing there’s enough growth here in the coming few decades + friends/family

Looking to hear if the reduced brain drain is actually true, and what makes people stay.

To people who choose to stay in India, what made you stay? 🪷

For me it was the army and followed by my corporate job. I never felt like leaving the country. It’s always better to live like a first class citizen in a 3rd world country than a third class citizen in a first world country. 
  
 In addition to this, family is what defines us as Indians and that kept me hinged back home

I am starting up soon. I care about working on meaningful problems, with good people and building the right culture. 

Have been hearing from a lot of folks about culture problems in startups. Seems more of a norm rather than an exception. 

Curious to know why do startup culture degrade? What pitfalls should I avoid to create a healthy culture?

Although India is a country with great culture and food,but it seems due to lack of unity, selfishness and a tendency to pull down others,
India would take light years to be a developed country.

Also this has been a major root cause of being attacked by so many invaders over the centuries.

Someone who has resources in abundance, would not take any interest to help others in need. Not just basic,but any other thing also.

Infact to say,we get easily influenced by anything. We don't have our own identity just like the French.

There is a reason why u r asked to get out of city. And locals don't usually say that to Telugus or Tamils or Marathis. It's predominantly aimed at a section from somewhere and a major reason is people from that somewhere are generally crap(sorry for stereotyping).

1. Be grateful for the local land, culture and set up. 
Problems exist everywhere, solve it if you can, remember that you were not born in a palace.

2. Learn the local culture, actualize it, propagate it. Massive influx of immigrants wipes out the existing culture. Onus is on you to not only protect it but spread it as well. If you don't then yes, u should get the fck out.

3. India is a mix of cultures. Just how Hindi is important a language so is kannada. Telugu or Tamil or everyone. Did you even know Kannada has won 8 Jnanapith awards(highest literary honour) vs Hindi's 11 despite the miniscule population of kannada infront of Hindi?
Do you even know how rich kannada literature is? Do you really believe it deserves death in its own crown jewel(Bangalore?). Who do you think you are if you think this city should speak the language of people u come from but don't put an effort to speak the city's language.

Live and let live. Yes that's a 2 way street. Onus has always been on you. After more thab decade of handing you guys an olive branch, now the city has realised our open gesture is taken for granted. Well, make no mistake we will teach you the right way. Onus is still on you!

I find it curious at least that in my undergrad batch, out of all the people who went to abroad 80% of them were women. What factors would contribute to that?

[Pattern] Noticed recently that more women have gone abroad to settle than Men...

Whenever I read foreign media outlets, India is the new Asian Tiger that will outpace most emerging economies in growth. But Indian media and Indian people act like India is the worst place to be.

The dichotomy is extremely confusing. Why is it that foreign media coverage on our economy is more favourable than our own hopes and aspirations from this country?

PS: I am really big on Indian Exceptionalism, the belief that India's economic development and trajectory are unique or exceptional compared to other nations, driven by our large and diverse population, thriving middle class, our entrepreneurial spirit, and the emphasis on technology and innovation.

Lack of opportunities, too much competition and no support from government (unless you know someone who knows someone) 
  
 It is just not India, you speak with natives of other countries they will not paint rosy pictures. Happiest country Finland has such gloom in population and they accept it
