I’m interviewing at a bunch of companies and most of them want a generalist in the product designer position. Expecting to take on every responsibility possible, leaving no room for any sort of work-life balance.
Founders/co-founders, listen up. You might be obsessed with the problem you’re solving. Do not expect others to be equally obsessed. With all due respect, we’re here to look after ourselves and our families. You disguise these additional responsibilities as “learning opportunities” which is absolutely bollocks. You don’t even offer to pay accordingly.
Just needed to rant. If anyone else here has a different point of view, I’m open to changing my opinions.
These founding idiots don't get that they might be passionate about their idea or company, but we are passionate about our craft not the some of the other aspects of building a business.
+1. In places like these, there’s not a lot of scope for good quality designs. Everything is so half-assed.
Design as a whole suffers from this. Video editor will also be asked to do Photoshop work plus UI work plus random illustration shit plus visiting card design because why not.

This exact reason is why design is never taken seriously in India. In most cases it’s seen as a “nice to have”.
Sad but all the comments above are true.
It seems unfair to me and others like me who are trying to get into the industry. People who are in the industry very well know that they didn't get an entry because they did some Jony Ive-level work. The majority of them simply got luck...
