Bangalore economy is running on fomo

Instagram drives fomo have created epidemic of status driven consumption like ₹2500 for a one hour class of pottery, strawberry picking for Rs. 2000.

What happened to free activities like playing morning cricket or enjoying IPL finale with your best friends / family .

Finally someone said it 🙏
Why is Staying at home looked down upon

WobblyDumpling
WobblyDumpling

Fr, I have been mocked at for staying more often at home than going outside, it's difficult to explain them how I would rather be at peace at home with parents or maybe meet a friend, have few hours of good conversation, or upskill

GroovyPancake
GroovyPancake

Staying at home is not bad at all. But if that is the only thing, then it does not keep things interesting in one's life. I am totally in for hanging out with parents/siblings/friends for a good conversation but sometimes you got to try things outside of your comfort zone, but that does not mean you spend exorbitant amount of money for pottery, but something you want to try once in a while.

Bangalore is the most scamiest place on Earth everyone is trying to loot us.

Come to central Bangalore!

Try to go to local places.

FloatingWaffle

No don't. Wherever you guys go, scam will follow. Don't ruin only remaining good places for the local people.

Please stay in ur IT corridor🤦 and go home as soon as possible.

India at its core is a status driven society.

That is why it will take years to become a developed nation

The things which used to be status before are looked down upon now. This is just westernisation of india which isn’t turning out well

When did looking down on someone for their choices become cool? You want to stay at home, be there and enjoy your time. Someone wants to go an aesthetic cafe, let them go and enjoy their time. We all earn money to keep ourselves happy. If someone is being happy by going to a place, what is the problem in that? People are going to such places because those avenues are available here. Try opening something like these in Delhi and you'll see every influencer flocking there.

Let people do whatever they want man lol!! Maybe it’s not so average food to them ? Maybe they can afford to do those things ? Their choice! Stupid tweet.

DizzyLlama
DizzyLlama

I agree with you. But OP and people here aren't arguing about the tweet. These people have experienced trauma from their friends and loved ones for their own choice of staying at home and FOMO of being at home while others are outside. I think even their frustration is justified. I mean, you wanna go out, go out, spend your money, do whatever you want! Don't judge those who don't wanna go out! Period!

Thanks for saying it. Literally nothing to feel good about living in Bangalore. That's why I left after living for 8 years.

Yea. It is loosing its charm actually. And lot of heavy competition in IT coz of density. It’s blood bath really. I have moved to HYD now.

controversial take on this: what if a handful of these people who post about their weekends on Instagram actually do thorough research before going out for an experience and just post about it because it turned out to be really nice and memorable? the twitter post author seems to be having a lil bit fomo herself ig

FluffyDonut
FluffyDonut

U r right.. the key word being "handful". It's just that, and the vast majority of them running around in FOMO. Nothing spl or new, it's also very close to "snobbery". Read the short essay "selected snobberies" by Aldous Huxley, written about 100yrs back.

this makes so much sense, will surely go through the essay

Every Indian metro has similar scenario.

If you don't participate in such activities, people label you as miser.

But is bangalore a metro city? 😕

ZippyPickle
ZippyPickle

however the point is you don't have to pay exorbitant amounts for every good experience out there, if you explore properly and evaluate your options well it can turn out to be really fulfilling experience almost similar to the pretend play treasure hunts we used to do as kids tldr: don't make lazy decisions and complain later on, ps this is not an attack whatsoever just a very different pov
