There is no one place fits all. If you wanna hustle and are in finance goto Mumbai - if you want better infra but crap weather Delhi/NcR. Otherwise for tech Hyd or Pune are decent too

If you’re a bachelor then with 12LPA(base pay), you can live a pretty decent life and save. At 12LPA, you wont pay much tax, your in hand would be around 85-90k. Your monthly expenses can be within 25-35k, buy stuff for yourself, invest some.

But as soon as you get married, your expenses would shoot up because you’ll need to have a house if your own (2BHK atleast). So in this case 20-25LPA base pay, and once you have kids, 35LPA+ atleast. This figure is for living a decent life, along with a little bit planning of future. Ofcourse, you can live a frugal life with much less.

Depends on your age and expenses.
Calculate your expense. Multiply by 3. That's a good base.
1x goes to expense. 1x for savings + investment. 1x for emergencies, fun activities and miscellaneous stuff.

There are people who are earning less than 20 lakh as family but have a settled life now.
You will find people earning more than 25-30 lakh and still be complaining.

IT salaries are an outlier even for a city like Bangalore. Other industries do not pay on par with IT. Reduce expenses with lifestyle creep and save + invest well. You will do good.
