First time flyer

Flying for the first time, getting anxious a lot of the process. Have read some of the guides but they feel overwhelming. On top of that it's a layover flight and I have to change the flight. Can someone provide some guidance šŸ„².

Details -

  1. Flying tonight, in Indigo, will be changing flights in the night.

  2. Have done web check-in, but not sure, if I need to generate baggage tags.

  3. Have a laptop bag that will weigh more than 3 kg (3 kg is the max limit for hand bag as per indigo website). Will it be allowed or be counted as cabin baggage? Do I need to do a baggage drop/tag it?

  4. I have a small cabin luggage, weighing ~7kg (7kg is the max limit for cabin baggage). Again, do I need to do baggage drop or something? Will be bringing a deo which I believe is not allowed in the cabin, might drop it if it's true.

  5. Do I need to get a boarding pass again from the counter? I've an e-pass and will be boarding from a small airport.

  6. Do I need to recollect baggage after deboarding at layover?

  7. Is there security check-in again at the layover airport?

  8. Anything else I'm missing that I should know?

šŸ„² Hoping someones helps out by the night.

Cabin bag need to be within limit otherwise will be sent with ur baggage. No need to worry about the baggage tags, that can be done at indigo counter where they check the weights.
Boarding Pass in phone will be enough but you can generate in kiosk or they can provide you at the counter.
Yes there will be security check in again at the layover airport & you donā€™t need to worry about collecting ur baggage at layover, it will reach at your final destination.

Donā€™t carry anything which is prohibited (anything which is flammable is not allowed).
Not sure from where you are travelling but try to reach airport atleast 1.5hrs early to get through check-ins without any hassles.
Other advise for first time flyer:
Keep your govt ID handy.
Cover your ears when flight is taking off (some donā€™t like that sound & slight pain it causes in ear so).
Use restroom before getting into flight &
Donā€™t eat heavy food before flying, keep vomit bag (if in case needed, the flight attendants might give u one but to be proactive better to have something with you).
Have a Safe journey. šŸ„³

+if your luggage is more than the mentioned limit, youā€™ll be charged extra so be mindful of it. +Download some good content videos to watch if u get bored.
(Personal experience: I havenā€™t liked the cup noodles which they give, some sort of gas smell every time u burp šŸ˜)

What about the hand bag? The one carrying a laptop, should it be under 3kg too? The laptop alone is more than 2kg I'm not sure how I can reduce weight.

Also, any idea on question 4?

When i took my firsr flight, the moment life took off, i closed my eyes and experienced the pull.

It was a great first time experience. Just said to myself - ā€œThis is just the beginning, never gonna stop from hereā€.

More than motivation, that was a metaphorical suggestion to my inner self. Still remember that feel crystal clear.

All the best. Flying is a magical experience, and the safest mode of transport.

  • You don't need baggage tags in advance, just join the check in line for indigo
  • The laptop bag is completely fine even if 3 KGs
  • Small cabin luggage - if you are anyway giving luggage, then give it alongwith it. If not, then carry it with you. Sometimes they ask you to put it aside when boarding, but that's fine. They will put your bag on priority when you receive it at the airport
  • You don't need boarding pass again from countrer
  • bag collection just ask the person at the check in counter where it is
  • You're all good, enjoy the flight

Curious, how come you've never taken a flight before?

The major steps:

  1. Entry to Airport : Just show your ticket and ID proof. If you dont have any checkin baggage advise you to do web check in and get boarding pass. If you have checkin luggage, dont do web check in

  2. Check In Baggage Drop: If no check in luggage skip this step, you must have got the boarding pass accroding to step 1. If you have check in baggage, go to one of the counters of the airline. Proceed to check in the luggages. They will tag your luggage, give you the boarding pass and a luggage tag. Keep it safe

  3. Proceed to security check. Unload all electronics on to tray and any metal item you may have on you

  4. After security check you can chill in the lounge or just roam in the duty free

  5. Gate will be printed on your boarding pass. Reach there 40-45 mins before. Scan your boarding pass. Board

  6. Reach your destination. Deboard. They will announce the conveyer belt on which you luggage will arrive. Pick it up

  7. Dont think too much about laptop or cabin luggage, they should not look heavy. It wont be weighed. Just look for what is allowed in cabin

  8. If you booked connecting flight, luggage will reach your destination. Just do security steps and board your next flight

P.S. Firsts are always special. If you need a stub to keep a memory or something, advise you to queue up at baggage counter, they will give a physical pass
