Start by completing a youtube playlist on this topic, try to pick a shorter one to complete it in a week. Then for next 3-4 days watch youtube videos with topics “most asked DSA and system design interview questions” Trust me in 10-12 days you will feel more confident in the interviews.

I always try to practice as much as I can. I believe and understand that the concepts I am touching/ brushing up is what needs to be done instead of the number of problems I solved.

But at the same time I always feel under prepared. I don't feel confident that I have covered much and is enough for the interviews.

Hi folks,
I recently got laid off from a startup where 50% of the engineering team was let go. I was working as an SDE and during a restructuring, my role was changed to SDE-2 without any increase in pay or responsibilities. I have a total of 2.5 years of experience. In my first company (where I worked for a year), there weren't many projects, so I didn't have the opportunity to learn or code much. However, in my second company, I primarily worked on the backend using Go, Django, Kafka, MongoDB, & PostgreSQL.
I realize that although I gained exposure in my second job, I didn't delve deeply into the technologies. I mainly focused on completing business tasks quickly, learning new things just to finish the task at hand, without solidifying my understanding afterward.
My experience seems suitable for an SDE-2 role, but I'm unsure if I can perform the role with complete honesty and may struggle. Some friends in similar situations reassure me that this struggle is common in SDE-2 roles. However, I feel I might be better off starting again as an SDE-1, focusing on my weak areas, and aiming for a promotion later. There are very few SDE-1 job openings currently.
I am actively interviewing for SDE-2, and not able to clear system design interviews. Tbh, I feel very humiliated as when I am not able to answer their questions it feels like I am wasting their time or they would be thinking: Oh this guy has been working for so long and doesn't even know anything.

Now I get it why people think Indian Software engineers are not that good in comparison to other countries' devs: the reason is people like me. 
This realization burdens me with guilt, occupying my thoughts constantly. However, I am confident that I can crack SDE-1 easily. I have good DSA & good enough LLD, &HLD skills for SDE1. I am looking for companies who can match my prev Salary: 22 L, 2 Bonus.
Can u help how to navigate this career situation effectively without increasing my guilt or feeling constantly humiliated?

First work on the feeling of humiliation and self worthlessness. Don't ignore this, I've done it and it's one of my biggest regret. Working on this will feel a waste of time initially given job search is highest priority, I assure you your future self would thank you.  
  
 Now you are clearly very self aware, most incompetent people don't even know their shortcomings. And you know what, many comparatively incompetent people are making much more money, having much less self doubt and just living more - it's like being more self aware is a curse.  
  
 How do you get out of this curse? It's a slow process. Write down the things that make you feel that way, come up with an an action plan on what you could do to reduce that - clear goals and actions always relive anxiety. Writing things down is extremely important, keep coming back to it whenever you feel the same way, eventually you would reason your way out of this. Most of the time you are in a loop, living in guilt and self doubt for the same reasons over and over. Documentation of these feelings over time will make it look so silly, how could the same problem give you so much mental pain again and again.  
  
 You will do just fine career wise. With a few more years of experience, I can guarantee you will evolve over time, the problems giving you so much mental pain would seem very trivial then - that if you are able to resolve these feelings - otherwise it's a hell I wouldn't want for my worst enemies.  
  
 Some questions to ponder over -  
 1. Can you do the job search while being just a little gentle on yourself? 
 2. Does failure mean you have no worth? Can you fail more gracefully?  
 3. Does 2.5 years of mistakes(even if it see that way) mean you can't do amazing things in coming years? 
 4. Above all, does feelings of humiliation and worthlessness help you in any way? If nothing else changes, wouldn't it be better to just be a little gentler on yourself? 
  
 Take care, you don't have a career problem, a mental health one instead

I could solve general problems from arrays, trees, sorting and all. I would fail miserably when the interview goes in the direction of DP problems. After a point I realised it actually doesn’t matter, you will find enough places where you are valued for your skills. 

Been a person who was on the both sides of the table, more on the side taking interviews. I realised one thing how many of us end up writing those fancy TSP code or backtracking etc day in day out. Almost most of the code we write is in some form a version of CRUD and its a reality.
Someone getting hired in google is not going to be assigned to improve their search algorithm. I know a lot of ppl who joined and left google because they were not getting to work on meaningful stuff. 

I ask real life programming stuff and I try to judge based on that, I want to see given a real scenario how the candidate thinks rather then knowing how good the person is in solving some DP problem.

Some ppl can write real good code without realising that they are actually using the best practices and design patterns and not remembering the patterns name, it sometimes just comes naturally

I suck at DSA, realized its okay.

Hey all, I feel so shit at the moment. I’ve failed 8-10 interviews so far, out of job since a year. It seems like every interview they ask a totally different set of questions or scenarios. Whatever I prepare gets me maybe 50-60% of the way, rest are all new questions and I fuck up or I’m not able to fully give them an answer.

What makes me feel even worse is that, lot of people aren’t even getting calls at the moment and here I am speed-running every single opportunity to failure. I’m so done at the moment. No idea how to proceed or what to prep.

Apart from DSA I’m also preparing for HLD and LLD and I’d love to have recommendations from you folks about how to prepare these and where to prepare these from?

I am a 2YOE software engineer, and I wanted to make a switch. Having a grip on DSA but can't rely on it. I am seeing a good number of folks getting into start ups get paid well too. Can someone comment on startups that are paying well but require less grinding. Open for comments and views.

High paying companies (startups) who don't ask DSA!

I just think we should skip DSA rounds for existing FAANG employees.

I understand the importance of DSA rounds and is pretty much required for SDE 1 roles as their major work is to code. But for higher levels, it starts becoming less and less relevant and pointless.

In most companies DSA is to understand the basics of the candidate, can they write code, explain the problem and thought process. Now most FAANG interviewers look for the same thing. Now once I have cleared one that means I have proved myself to be someone who meets the bar, doing it again is just like "Well, have you continued grinding leetcode after getting the job". You can check design competencies, problem solving in design, mentoring etc. but why ask DSA and go through that gruelling interview process.

People laid off way later than me have started with their new jobs and are happy yet I'm still struggling here looking for a job, they are getting hikes and I'm just looking to get hired.

1. Work hard in your job. Don't complain and waste time. We know everyone is replaceable, but work so damn hard that if at all you decide to resign and switch sometime, it should come as a shell shocker to them.  
 Build a program/product/team from scratch, own it end to end so much that they'll never find anyone close to you who can work with the same efficiency. 
 You'll obviously take your learnings and apply them later on in your next job, but 
 You'll also earn the respect of all your colleagues which might be needed in your future corporate journey. 
 2. Don't chase money early on in your career unless you actually**need** it. Focus on building relationships, knowledge, learning to code (it helps) and earning respect of your colleagues wherever you go. 
 3. Don't get into smoking due to peer pressure. AVOID IT.

Hey 

I joined infosys in oct - 2022 and now it’s been 1.8 months. My tech stack is MEAN stack but I was on bench through the year, recently got into a project but for only 4 months. I developed and learned by my own and gained a better knowledge on angular.
Now the situation my company has made for me that I need to switch asap, within a month or two.

Can anyone suggest me how to prep specifically so that I get offers from other company.

My DSA skills are gone and feel like I need to learn again from basics.
I have knowledge about angular.

Can anyone suggest me how much DSA I should learn and focus right now to clear interviews.
I’m planning to get a grasp over python and start doing DSA questions in that plus polishing my angular skills too. 
I have basic knowledge of node.js MongoDb too.

Will I’ll be able to switch within this time frame?

Please can anyone guide me through it so that I can plan smartly and can switch.

How to prep for switch?

Status: 1.7 yoe | Passout from Tier 3
Position: SDE1 at a product based company (Java Backend)
CTC: 5.2 lpa
I resigned from there in April because of personal health reasons plus the work environment and the pay did not suit me well. I was confident to find a better pay as compared to how/the amount of work I got done there in comparison to my peers but unfortunately I feel lost now.
From last two months I am focussing on my DSA concepts, and now feel a bit confident to start interviewing again.

One of my concern is will this type of career break impact seriously or is that acceptable to companies.
Secondly, sometimes I also get confused on should I focus on the core subjects again thoroghly or just grind leetcode properly first and then maybe a week or so on OS, DBMS, OOPS, Java, Spring Boot (based on my last project at work).
Kindly give some assistance on time partitioning since I am getting overwhelmed in order to get myself "fully prepared".
Also pls help me with referrals, if any.

How to get re-hired

I am a JAVA backend dev, currently in TCS with 5.5 yrs of exp. I want to switch to a Product now. My dev skills are good. I have worked in few projects. With this many years of exp, the expectations are too high now, System Design, Kafka, Jenkins, Docker and DSA on top of that. I don't know how to start, once I start preparing DSA I feel like I am missing on reading system design and other stuff. Also, I don't feel confident about my DSA skills. Are there any devs here who were very bad in DSA but are very confident now. Please share your experiences in comments. Since I already have so many years of exp, this is my last chance to switch to a good product company. Please guide.

Hey everyone, I'd like to hear your thoughts. Have any of you successfully aced an interview solely through tutorials, YouTube, or side projects without hands-on work experience? 
I am a SDET exploring a transition to SDE role, internally tried within my company ,not happening due to various reasons, hence trying to switch over. In order to achieve that, I've worked on full-stack sidd projects, practiced DSA, and made a good "tailored" CV that gets me interview calls. But I am currently facing mixed experiences in interviews. I am able to answer a few but struggle with some questions and seek advice on how to improve. Any suggestions for this career switch are greatly appreciated! Thanks a ton

I was in manual testing for 2 years. Left my job. Joined scaler. Cleared some mock interviews (except DSA). I am in desperate need of a job in developer role(full or backend). I need to clear DSA and ReactJS mock interview in order to be eligible for placements at scaler. I don’t see any other option now. And talking about DSA I don’t feel confident enough. Sometimes I go blank when there is a question. I don’t know to prepare DSA smartly and fast. Kindly suggest what should I do. 
(I’m not that bad at DSA. It’s just I’m not confident enough). 
So.. I’m open to all kind of possibilities and suggestions.

HELP !!!

I am a backend engineer with a 9 year exp. In my fourth company now. Started with 5 lpa, now at 31 Lpa. 
Mostly have worked in normal companies only. I am from one of the NITs. 
I am not good at DSA. Everytime I have to switch a job, my resume gets shortlisted  and I get call via naukri. 
The things is in these last 4 job searches I have been rejected 100 times. I have been rejected by almost all the companies, 
Service now 5-6 times, oracle 5-6 times, Walmart 2 times, goldman 3 times, jpmorgan 2 times, Amazon 4-5 times, arcesium 3-4 times, msft 2 times. 
Apart from these, I have been rejected by adp, celigo, phenom, barclays, flipkart etc. 

Every time, I want to change a job, I'll get rejected by all the big companies and then will get selected at some normal company with a hike and will join them. 
I am at my fourth company now, and again I am searching for a job. Have already been rejected by GS, service now, phenom, epam, ice, demandbase in last 2 months. 
Every time it is the same DSA. 

I try studying, will do decent amount of leetcode prior to interviews. Last two months I am doing leetcode from strivers sheet. 
But same question I'll do here, and in interview will fail. Example I have done sorted array rotation, shares sell and buy, rain water trapping, and was asked the same question in interview and couldn't solve. 

I also want to earn more and get into some big company and stay there for some times, what shall I do? 

My concerns are, I am getting lesser calls this time compared to the last few years, I can't be switching job every two years. 
Want to join a big company and earn more.

Hi guys, looking forward to some advice. I'm working as a Frontend developer for the past 2 yrs, tech stack is React, Javascript. I'm feeling that I'm bored with the work and not learning much now, just building components and calling new APIs. So I thought I should try backend development. The backend tech stack in my team is Java, Spring boot. I have knowledge of core Java. If I continue with the current role, I might get a promotion next yr but if I change I will not get. Also I eventually want to go to a MNC, where I see generally hiring is for backend roles where system design and DB is asked. Frontend specific hiring I mostly find in startup and mid sized companies, which I want to avoid. Another option is to switch to a different company like Microsoft, etc where they look for a general software engineer, for which I will need to study system design and DB. I'm fairly good at DSA, so not much of an issue here. What should I do?
