
What do you do for upskilling?
Software engineers having 1+ YoE working full-time (not internship), how do you folks upskill apart from regular work at the office?
I’m 5 years into my dev career and there are lot of things I have learned on the job. However lately I have realized I haven’t learned or upskilled myself besides what I do at work. Also what I have learned is pretty niche and does not seem to be too useful outside my current work. I have been trying to upskill myself but I don’t get the energy after work to put in hours to upskill myself.
How do you guys do it?
You don't get the motivation for a long time and one day when you see others getting promoted/others making more money than you/ people making fun of you because you earn less,. You find the time and will to upskill your self
It's different for everyone. For me, it is a toxic work culture and a very bad WLB. I'm working 12 hours for the office and still after that I'm giving tests to switch. All because I really cannot stay any longer here. I know if I stay more, it's gonna suck the soul out of me.
So maybe some day you'll have your reasons that'll force you enough to get out of your comfort zone and do something to move out of the place you're in.
