I’m a solo dev funding myself while I get my business to the point of funding my life. I derive a lot of meaning and excitement from my work.
There are giant open problems that if addressed could improve my life for decades.
There are skills to learn and reps to hit. I find myself thinking about it all the time, not anxiously, but like a chess person might think of a difficult chess problem. I could fly to Iceland and sit in a spa with cream on my face but within I’d be cracking the code.
Do you relate to this? Should I take a vacation for vacations sake?
I do find my life is reducing in complexity to the point where most of my time is the business. But isn’t that common? Like how a college student is basically only a student until their life opens up after completing that education.
Just do what you feel like buddy, don't overthink it. Everyone has periods of productivity and lull. Listen to your body and mind, work, exercise and rest well. Everything else will be fine.
Good luck with your project :)
