How to Deal with Toxic Manager

Currently working for Foreign Startup, under a Indian Engineering Manager.

Manager is incompetent, doesn't like disagreemets. If you disagree with him, then he goes to length to make your life diffult. Already seen few examples in the team.

There are red flag all over the place. I'm not sure how upper management is not able to catch him. He does the politics, favoritism, etc...

List goes on and on. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S Don't want to leave the company in this market.

I went through the same and went overboard to please such a person affected my mental health and had to take a break. Please focus on your health. Block time for yourself outside of work. eat healthy, workout and meet people (have fun). Working with such people will always be draining, so get in and out of conversation with them quickly, be to the point, clear. Reduce exposure and heat as much as possible.
Keep things on written comms as much as possible MOMS, journaling (helps your cognition and tracking) etc. Remember it is ok to take help or do what is best for you.

Unfortunately you will need to bear him till the time you desire to stay in the firm and quit once you feel the moment has arrived. Corporate frustration is very normal and is difficult to bear as well. But there's no choice until the moment to switch has arrived.

This is 90% of the workforce. Job change can't be the solution. You may witness his big brother in a new job. Look for IJP, learn how to manage upwards, be visible to your skip level bosses, pick high dependency projects, focus on things which you love outside work like yoga, gym, kids etc.

Unfortunately, nothing can be done to deal with such managers. May be you could try moving to other project/team?

I recently started a new job. I would like to share some of the experiences I have had with my manager. I am wondering if these are red flags or if I am maybe being paranoid or thinking too much.

It was quite difficult for me to get i...
