How to stay relevant post AI takeover?

Let’s say If, A big if, AI becomes self sufficient to do the job of a backend developer, like it’s able to write basic crud apps, simple system design stuff it can do and slowly it keeps getting better at debugging and stuff. (It should not need debugging tho)

What can I as a backend developer do, to keep myself relevant in the market and always be able to find a new job?

Nothing you can do, with massive computing power and ever increasing accuracy, there is no way to compete. Its like the early engines were slow and fuel inefficient, but they soon overtook every other means of transport. You cant outrun cars now nor any horse driven cart evn pulled by 10 horses overtake them.

Meaning to say your upskilling is irrelevant, you wont have jobs to apply leave alone have a job. We tech workers are staring at mass extinction.

Correct only way would be either u become a compute seller which u cant or u become a compute user that is develop ur own ai 😄

And how many can do that, developing your own AI is for top of the top, the borderline crazy nerds, not for gargantuan normal workforce employed in IT.
Be it IT coolie working in WITCH, or the didi/bhyya creating tik tok reels in Faang camous, they all redundant in next few years.
The upcoming batch of students enrolled in their degrees can forget about making entry.

It's not a big if.

Imagine GPT-5 or Claude 4 and how much of an improvement those would be over current systems.

Imagine Devin AI backed by Claude 4.

It's a question of when, not if.

What about GPT-6 then? Will that be the end?

  1. Learn to use AGI in your daily work.

  2. Learn how AGI or AI works.

  3. Expand your skillsets (e.g. Front-end, DevOps, etc)

  4. Dive deeper into backend skillsets. (So that your skills are not that replaceable with AI)

I think in the next 1_2 years, there will be 30-40% less devs required for sure. Especially the junior roles.
