I am being bullied at work. What should I do?

A friend asked me this today and what I would do, is the following

  1. I would not go to HR. HR generally fulfills no purpose in a firm except payroll and recruitment, both functions they seem to fuck up anyways.

If one does decide to go to HR, you will find a person who will try to make this into a “special case for anyone to see". Just for his own purpose of climbing the ranks in HR, not to support the person who complained initially.

  1. I would discuss this with the higher performing employees on the floor.

Why? Senior management will likely listen to a high performing individual, not a employee whose performance has fallen simply because he claims he is bullied.

Common sense 101.

  1. I would bring this to my boss.

It is his responsibility to ensure a healthy, lively and enthusiastic work environment. If there is a bully, others will have noticed too. It impacts the corporate environment and as a result output.

If my boss does fuck all about it, or it turned out he was the bully, I would go over his head.

  1. I would not engage with a bully, (I mean I would, but that wouldn't be my generic advice)

Simply because the person who bullies is probably suffering from some small dick complex, not enough sex at home, large ego, whatever floats his boat.

And with folks like that, you won't win a discussion. You will be wasting your energy for nothing. You idiot.

Furthermore, if you tell a bully. A clever bully will already tell your supervisor 100s of bullshit lies, making it more difficult for you to complain and evidence you are bullied.

  1. Don’t wait. Take action now.

Work is the majority of your life. Every day waking up with the feeling, I don’t want to go to work is 1 too many.

  1. Don't go outside your team, your boss or whatever before having tried to solve this internally.

If you sit in a team of 40 people, your boss can't supervise all of you 24/7. So he could have missed it.

Going outside the team could put your boss in a difficult situation.

  1. And last, get fucking evidence. A bunch of emails, cancelled meetings, not doing his work or providing you consistently wrong information.

You got a bully fucking you up? Deal it with it first thing back in the office or wherever the hell you work.
