IIMs struggling with internship?

Reading reports of students from IIM Blr and Lucknow struggling for internships. Does anyone have any insights on the real scale of this? Any insights on the ongoing fulltime placement season for 2024?

Imo it's only downhill for MBAs from this year when it comes to tech, finance and consulting. For one, the markets have now recovered from excessive froth due to ZIRP. Additionally, automation and AI will continue to make data scientists more valuable than MBAs as decision makers within finance, consulting and tech. Until a time when anything software dev will be made a commodity by future advances in GenAI, after which it's utter chaos amid rapid changes. However, FMCG will remain a consistent recruiter as MBAs prove as good resource for running operations of a stable P&L non-tech business.

Any ambitious youngster today should spend as much time as possible on X learning about developments in AI and blockchain, and other areas of tech. These entire industries with its top builders are now completely global and organized around X for knowledge sharing and discussions. Even indie builders, marketers, users are organized on X and discord. Remove distractions associated with X by building up lists in which you add only great folks so that your information diet is top notch. One for AI, one for blockchain, one for robotics, one for biotech, whatever your interest areas are.

The world is changing rapidly and will continue to change. For Indians, it opens up more opportunities than challenges as the knowledge base/sharing is organized around English, and latest advances in tech are happening in US but known to Indians on the same day and hence can built upon it. This is unprecedented. Hope everyone takes this opportunity seriously.

Does it mean domains like ops and marketing will be insulated from the AI onslaught...but product mgmt will be under the axe?

Well multiple factors. Candidates are more keen on stipends like 2 L/ month instead of 20k/month. Batch sizes are like 600 plus. There are more than 20 IIMs. It is a really bad year

Yup it's the money. If folks from IIMs were okay with 20k stipend they all will get internships in half a day.

It's not possible. The premium lies in the money. If IiM starts accepting 20k intern their value drops. It impacts placements too. Those missed out people would be placed in the end thru contacts. It has happened before. Just got noticed this time because of the higher scale
