Hi! I’m new here and need your help.
I have been a UX designer at a Bangalore-based startup since June 2024 after completing my MS in Human-Computer Interaction. I relocated to Bangalore to engage with its vibrant design community.
When I joined, I was the only designer, following an interview with a fellow UX designer who has since disappeared. At first, I was excited about my first office role, where I could make design decisions and create intuitive experiences. However, the initial enthusiasm faded quickly. Here are a few issues I’ve encountered:
-
I’m not expected to conduct any research, which I believe is essential for good design. The approach here is limited to asking tools like ChatGPT.
-
I’m primarily tasked with redesigning older modules without making meaningful changes. For example, my attempt to simplify a five-step process to three was rejected because "It is too much change".
-
The designs I create are often altered by the developer without my knowledge, resulting in deployed designs that don’t resemble my original work. This has happened four times till now. The manager and developer don't even come to me if they have an issue with the design.
I feel like these challenges are impacting my creativity and problem-solving skills. They are restricting my creative freedom. There are days when I spend the entire day documenting the design process on Confluence without any design tasks to work on.
I feel that my growth is limited here. I always prioritize my career and do not want to waste my potential in a place where I am not valued.
So, my question to you all is: Should I look for a new job? Do recruiters consider it a red flag if an employee switches jobs before the 1-year mark?
Pls, help :/
