Marketing lead, 10.5 years, here to help!
Lead social, brand, perf, SEO, partnerships, community, growth, pretty much everything across zero to fairly high budgets. Happy to help.
I recently switched from B2C to B2B. Before this I worked at a startup that was not bullish on SEO despite my constant effort. Just random short term thinking. The problem is that I was left out of touch with SEO during this stint.
Now that I am working with B2B, we have a range of products for SMEs. Unfortunately the SEO guy comes with very primitive thoughts and needs to change asap.
Currently all our SEO efforts yield into traffic that is not relevant for the brand as it targets the easier keywords.
Does it make sense to focus on top 5-10 keywords and go all out with content around the same. Plan these keywords to ensure they would yield into leads eventually? Or is there some other way to go about it?
Can you suggest some things to do at a meta level?
You may try the following:
Pick absolutely most essential keywords for your business and create 1 pillar content for each of them.
Next create few shorter cluster content and they should be relevant to the pillar content and link back to the same.
I've worked as B2B marketer and I've realised PR works like a charm, for SEO, for brand recognition, and yes to win big ticket clients.
Want to standout?
Invest in creating few really credible content IPs.
It could be thought leadership content around a theme or maybe a multi-format podcast (audio and video).
This will put you ahead of your competitors in the content game.
Hope it helps.
