People who are generally energetic, how do you do it?

I’ve lately been struggling with keeping my energy levels up through the day. My lifestyle isn’t that bad. Decent sleep, frequent exercise, I’m happy etc

But I find myself zoning out of conversations and this is affecting my ability to be “liked” at the workplace.

It’s not even about being liked, but as a person I don’t like not being able to 100% be there for people when they’re talking to me. It’s what makes us human, in a way.

People who are high energy, have you figured what your secret might be?

thanks 🙏🏻

I was in a similar situation where I felt lost and disconnected throughout the day. Things that worked for me:-

(1) Cut caffeine and sugar completely - strictly 0% consumption. Caffeine is really bad for sleep quality. (2) Increase vitamin D intake - sunlight and supplements. Deficiency leads to general fatigue and brain fog. (3) Improve sleep quality - have camomile tea, get a good mattress and comforter, sleep before 1 AM to be in deep sleep in the 2 AM to 4 AM range (4) Cold showers - not sure if they do anything at all but I've felt a noticeable increase in energy levels after doing them (even if placebo)

  1. I’ve kept sugar generally low in life. Coffee I love quite a lot. Would be very tough to do away with it. Can you share more about why coffee?
  2. Definitely agree with this. Working on it slowly. But the change is real!
  3. Camomile tea, never tried, but let me check it out :)
  4. Cold showers - my geyser doesn’t work, and I’m in Bangalore, so I’m without choice but I guess that’s good hahaha

Thanks for taking out the time to write all of this out! I’ll order some camomile tea and try it out

How soon did you start feeling the effects after getting into a better routine?

Rant and gossip. The energy comes out automatically 😂. The art of conversation - start, engage, conclude and leave open items for next conversation.

Doesn't take high energy. It's actually a framework. Ofcourse, listen to what people say with empathy and you will get hold of the flow.

Nah, I’m around nice people only. That’s what sucks, being not too nice around decent people.

Thinking of a framework before a conversation is weird but interesting, I’ll read up about this one.

The mom test - is a good book. Read a few pages you will know what I mean.

  1. You need to figure out what your Biological Prime Time is. This is the time when our activity and output needs is highest - and your schedule should reflect that.

It's different for different people and for some its later in the day than most.

  1. Learn to use stimulants smartly. Everyone has a stimulant window - usually 9 am to 2 pm - when you should consume whatever you do. Post that don't have caffeine and/or sugar.

  2. Taper off screen use before sleep. Atleast 60 minutes, ideally 120.

  3. Kick start your day by accelerating your metabolism. Can be something as easy as having a couple of glasses of water when you wake up or a quick short brisk walk (at-least 20 mins).

  4. Use the 20-20 split for your hour. I work with extremely deep focus for 20 mins and then take a 10 minute ease off / break / walk around. Helps me decelerate focus and keep the engine cool.

Very helpful inputs @TallTales69
My biggest takeaways from this one is: limiting stimulants to certain times, do away with devices an hour before sleep (this will be tough hmm), the 20-20 split.

The 20-20 split is how I studied all my life (not exactly, but used Pomodoro). I did end up doing okay, so makes sense to bring a similar concept to work as well.

Thanks a ton for this in depth answer : )

@AITookMyJob already explained some points. I would like to add a few more. Before that I would like to know how frequently you exercise? Also, get your D3, B12, Thyroid tests done.

Some other things you can do in terms of digital detox. Stop watching reels, uninstall Instagram or set a limited time for it. Meditation can also help with increase in focus. One practice you can do to control your focus is that ex: focus reading for 30mins.

Need to get my blood tests done. Will do it asap.
Instagram. I keep deleting and reinstalling. But it makes a difference, I do agree

Thanks for sharing your thoughts boss :)

Been there for years.

  1. Thyroid test first thing. My TSH was through the roof years ago, and I kept blaming myself for low energy. It turned out to be Hashimotos, the auto immune disorder. Taking meds helped to certain extent.

  2. Weights over running. People are going to hate me for this, but if you could do only activity in a day, always pick strength training - made me a different person energy wise - much bigger add on than thyroid meds alone.

  3. More recently, as I am getting older, the energy depletion is coming back. I cut out the sugar and I am back like a spring chicken. If you cannot cut out completely, reduce it to as low as possible. Makes a huge difference.

But I'd still suggest getting thyroid, other hormones like T-Levels as someone else suggested too, and getting vitamin/mineral profile done. Not everyone is built same. My partner on the contrary feels weak and low on energy when she stops sugar.

@ColdSummer thank you so much. These are inputs that are truly unique, I’d not heard most of these even in my search online

I’m planning to do a blood test anyway, will get Thyroid tested too

Should probably do gym instead of what I do rn (mostly cardio). Never been to the gym, and hence I end up hesitating always.

Need to break that barrier.

Thanks so much once again, really appreciate you!
