Seeking Guidance for Cloud Engineering Interview Preparation (AWS Focus)

Hello everyone,

I’m preparing for an interview for a Cloud Engineer role, with a strong focus on AWS. I have around 2 years of experience in cloud technologies, primarily working with AWS, and I want to ensure I’m fully prepared for the technical aspects of the interview.

Here are the key topics I’m currently focusing on:

  1. Terraform & Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Argo CD, Helm)
  2. AWS Core Services: ECS and EKS (for container orchestration), EC2, S3, EFS, RDS, Lambda (for serverless applications)
  3. Networking & Load Balancing:Network Load Balancer (NLB), Transport Layer Security (TLS),Route 53 for DNS
  4. Security & Access Control: IAM (Identity and Access Management)
  5. Monitoring & Observability: CloudWatch, Grafana
  6. Cost Optimization:AWS tools and strategies to manage and reduce cloud costs
  7. Orchestration & Deployment: EKS (Kubernetes on AWS) and using Helm for managing deployments

I would greatly appreciate any advice on specific areas I should focus on or tips for navigating the technical interview. If anyone has gone through similar interviews, I’d love to hear about your experience and the types of questions you encountered.

Additionally, if you have any useful resources (study guides, blogs, practice questions, videos), please feel free to share!

Thanks so much for your help!

Since no one has shared any suggestions yet, here’s a quick summary of the topics discussed during my 1-hour interview:

  1. The interview started with the typical introduction request, where I gave a brief overview of my professional background and experience.

  2. We covered Kubernetes, focusing on basic concepts like pods, use cases for multi-container pods, and namespaces. They also asked how long I’ve been working with Kubernetes and its practical applications.

  3. Several questions were centered on AWS services like EKS, S3, VPC, and VPNs, with a particular focus on setting up VPNs and VPC connections. We also talked about Lambda and CloudWatch, especially how these services are used for monitoring and troubleshooting. They inquired about my overall experience with AWS and how much time I’ve spent working with these tools.

  4. We delved into pod errors and debugging, particularly how I troubleshoot issues when a pod fails and is destroyed. I was also asked if I’ve dealt with a CrashLoopBackOff error and how I resolved it, with a focus on my hands-on experience.

  5. The conversation included networking and security topics, such as route tables, network access control lists (NACLs), and security groups.

  6. Lastly, we discussed Identity and Access Management (IAM), focusing on roles and policies. They also asked about my experience with cloud technologies and DevOps practices, as well as how long I’ve been working in these areas.
