Some background, I went to a T-1 school for my undergrad. Did many great internships and went to several hackathons around the globe. Made great money doing GSoC in my second year. I was the happiest back then. I was making more money than any of my friends, the world was for taking and I was Alexander, the world ripe for conquering.
Fast forward to today and I think I have done a disservice to my potential. Even if I still am the pot-smoking liberal teen that I was, I feel that I could have taken extreme risks when I was young. I could have still gotten my current job easily. I hardly work more than 3-4 hours in a day. I am always wondering what to do with my time and it feels like life has stagnated with nothing to look forward to except how much money I can realistically make over time.
I feel when I look in the mirror, I am still the same person I was. Except, I have lost some hair ofcourse and some hair has turned white(blame bangalore water ig?). Here is my advice to anyone young, hungry, smart and ambitious...
You only miss the shots you never take. So take your chances and shoot your shots. No one cares about you as much as you do. So if you got one life, why wouldn't you make it the best movie that it can ever be?

Well some need to reach that level of earning to realize and be in a position to act upon it. You wouldn’t be lost if finance was ur biggest concern. All this mid life crisis happens when all ur needs are met. One fact remains that in ur movie of life u wouldn’t want to watch parts of urself when u r just chasing after money.

You’re still just 28, why are you talking like you’re close to retirement age and can’t do anything about it now. Why even wait for a VC? Why not just start?

What's this mentality of running rat races. You've won the race and you're feeling as if world itself has ceased to exist.
Take ownership and solve some hard problems at work. Be a net positive for humanity.
That's a great thought and I would recommend moving onto it.
However do know that with a startup the purpose has to be more than money and it will only give full financial returns after a few years.
There is no guarantee of job or startups in this market. Do extensive research. Spend more time perfecting the idea than polishing the product (that can happen later).
42L is a good amount of money if you ask me, man. You’ve done good for yourself plus you are still young. 28 is not 38 and 38 is not 48 and.. you get the drift.

Easier said than done. Your perspective towards life keeps changing as you age (read as 'experience more'). No point in thinking about past and regretting stuff as your current thoughts are a function of those past experiences. It's better to think or rather plan about your future and act on it now. Age is just a number, it's never too late to do/build/explore something that you want to. The more you focus on your age the more you'll limit your mindset.
