TCS IJPs

I have recently received an offer from the BFSI unit for a Java developer role. I have got to know from somewhere that the project is of maintenance type and not an actual production level project. (By reading the linkedin profile of one of the panelist :P)

If anyone is aware of this BFSI unit (Morgan Stanley acct in Bangalore), can you please throw some light on the kind of projects and learning which I can expect?

  1. Is there any commitment period for an account like for 2 years or so, we have to stay in it and cannot apply internally for another account?
  2. Do IJPs in TCS actually help you get a salary hike and a better project to work on, as a lateral entry.
  3. After how much time can a new employee start applying for internal IJPs?

Thanks in advance!

  1. On paper they will say 2 years, if you are no longer needed they will release you even within 6 months. If you are needed they will hold for more than 2 years. Your request is usually not entertained. They will give lame excuses or stories.

  2. No such hike. Also projects are based on availability. It could be better or worse. Nobody knows.

  3. To apply for IJP, you first need a valid release email confirmation from your current supervisor. This again goes to the first point.

Also about your panelist being in maintenance project.

Persons reporting under the same manager would take interviews. I had been in support and taken interviews for Dev projects under my manager. So you cant really conclude based on it. Your best bet is asking the panelist about the project directly.

I also have received an offer for the same role and in the same domain. Even I am not sure what kind of works will be there. I have spoken with few TCS employees they said, it’s more like a maintenance job with minor code changes. Ex : checking for leap year and something similar. I request TCS’ friends and shed some light on it.
