Thoughts on "190km Road Tunnel Planned For Bengaluru"

I was reading some news and found out that the government has proposed a 190km underground tunnel to ease traffic. Do you think these projects can actually come into life in india? Or is it going to be another vote bank stunt

I’m not being pessimistic, but if the metro construction and ever going repair of roads is something to base your judgement on, the tunnel is going to be one big money pit.

Folks are not able to complete a half-complete flyover, ensure metro is fully operational and ensure roads don’t have potholes but want to build a tunnel.

This is literally me and my 10 side projects that are a fork of a flutter starter kit with name and theme changed, when I’m thinking of a 11th one. 😎

Those 10 side projects attacked me personally.

The longest existing tunnel in the world is 25 km and is in Norway. Norway’s per capita income is 85000 USD. India’s per capita income is 7000 USD. Make of it what you will.

Kids, gather around and let me tell you a story.

In the late 90s, BBMP floated a tender for the Domlur flyover. Tender was won by UP state bridge corporation. They were the premier bridge builders in the country (still are) because of their expertise in building large span cross river bridges.

Not surprisingly bridge got delayed.

First for a couple of years because steel prices went up steeply and the project turned unviable for UPSBC.

Second, because when they had built most of it after 5 years of toil and commuters could see light at the end of the bridge, they realised that the two ramps are fundamentally misaligned. Bridge was torn down and built again.

What fun.

And we're talking about BBMP executing a world class mother of all underground tunnels.

Most of the people on this platform don't understand politics deeply (or are too young to remember history). You're dealing with a party who has committed some of the worst scams in India's history.

Cut to today - you have LS elections in 1 year. KA is the only industrialized state in that party's kitty. How would you as an election manager raise funds for elections? You will target the richest city of that state & milk it max. You'll announce big, very big projects so that you can get % of the contract value in tender process. And the best part - it'll have no political implications as majority population of the city doesn't vote (in fact voted for the other party).

"40% commission" was always propaganda amplified by pliant Con ecosystem media dalals, aimed at the urban Bangalore electorate. It failed as BJP did a splendid performance in Blr. Can't take this seriously anymore given Con Karnataka govt. has not taken any step against the previous allegations. In reality, we do have this major problem now:
