What is HCL's designation hierarchy?

So I'm trying to figure out HCL's designation hierarchy and I'm a bit lost. Can someone explain the difference between E2 and E3 bands? Like, is a senior tech lead more technical or management-focused? Thanks.

It's not like that, I'm working on a project for more than 3 years and have expertise of 12 + years in my domain. They offered me a handsome salary and I joined but after that... No comments

So, you're curious about the HCL designation hierarchy? Here's how it works from my experience. When you start, you're usually an E0 – Software Engineer, handling software development and maintenance. The average salary is around 4 lakhs per year, and you'll be in this role for about 6-8 months.

Next up, you can move to E1 – Senior Software Engineer, which has sub-divisions like E1.1 and E1.2. This role typically lasts 3-5 years, with a salary of around 8 lakhs per year.

After that, you can become an E2 – Technical Leader, managing a team of engineers. This role can vary, but it generally includes team leaders and senior consultants, with salaries around 10-11 lakhs per year.

Then there's E3 – Project Manager, where you'll oversee projects and assign tasks. This band also includes technical specialists and senior project managers.

E4 is the Group Project Manager, similar to E3 but handling more projects. Beyond this, you have administrative and management roles from E5 to E9, and finally, the top band E10 or EX, which includes the CEO, President, and Chairman.

It's a pretty clear progression, and each step comes with more responsibility and a higher salary.

Hey, so you're wondering about the hierarchy at HCL? Okay, let me break it down for you. When you join, you'll probably start as an E0 – Software Engineer. That's the base level, and you'll be handling software development and maintenance. After 6-8 months, you might get promoted to E1 – Senior Software Engineer, where you'll be more into consulting and senior roles.

If you do well, you'll move to E2 – Technical Leader, managing a team of engineers. Then comes E3 – Project Manager, where you'll be overseeing projects and assigning tasks. E4 is the Group Project Manager, similar but with more projects.

Salary-wise, it varies but E0 is around 4 lakhs, E1 is about 8 lakhs, and E2 is around 10-11 lakhs per year. The work culture is pretty collaborative, and there are lots of learning opportunities, but work-life balance can be a bit tricky sometimes.

Hope that helps

If you're wondering about the hierarchy here, it starts with E0 – Software Engineer, which is where most of us begin. You'll handle software development and maintenance, and the average salary is around 4 lakhs per year. After a few years, you can move to E1 – Senior Software Engineer, where you'll be a senior software engineer or consultant, earning about 8 lakhs annually. From there, you can become an E2 – Technical Leader, managing a team and earning around 10-11 lakhs per year. Next up is E3 – Project Manager, where you'll oversee projects and manage tasks, and then E4 – Group Project Manager for even larger projects. After that, it gets more into administration and management roles.
