What is this concept of “managing your manager” or “managing upwards”?
Is it just some glorified corporate bullshit or does this principle have some real practical value? “Managing your manager” honesty sounds very much like “potty training your dad” to be very frank.
Started by incompetent managers who want their job to also be done by someone else
This is an amazing skill set to have. If you’re high on EQ, empathy, you’ll find it easy to do it- it helps you maximise your opportunities keeping in mind your manager’s constraints
It does have real value though if you get a perfect manager you wouldn't have to, but that's not how life works. Though it's not about licking their ass but more about communication, keeping them in confidence, asking for their opinions etc. It helps in making your life easier at work place.
