When do we normalise to prioritise health?

Sometimes, instead of chasing after these high-profile companies, it's better to find contentment in a mediocre company that does a good job and truly values its employees. I feel awful reading this. No one should ever have to face such a situation.

It’s high time that big 4 and other firms start recognising the importance of actual working hours!

Doctors come together and protest for a crime, their unity makes a deaf CM answerable, whole India sees them, support them. Now the question is, will CAs or the whole finance community come together to protest?

True that!

It’s not FINANCE COMMUNITY, this is IT community

The pressure should not be on EY. there are 1000 of PPL working here. It's all on how well u cope up or take the stress or learn to say no

PerkyDumpling

No this is wrong.

ZoomyLlama

You can’t say that. The company’s policy is spineless. This shows whole IT industry is suffering but nobody cares , only blames!

So sad to hear this. May god give strength to the family!!
I have worked at EY GDS for a significant period of time and I resigned due to toxic work environment. I would be lying if I said I didn't have suicidal thoughts during my tenure. The environment was way too much toxic, very few seniors/managers were kind, rest were not. I regret working there and not leaving soon because the only thing company gave me is many health issues and the number of doctors I have been to during my tenure is scary.

Every night, I couldn't sleep peacefully since work used to be on my mind all day. There were many days where we would end up sleeping just for 3-4 hours, rest day we used to work. And those 3-4 hours of sleep was also not peaceful. Many times I would wake up in the middle of the night due to work anxiety. I will never recommend this workplace to anyone no matter how much money they offer.

Yeah these aren't qualities in this day and age. They're the prerequisites to slavery.

These combined with honesty, perseverance and a sense of responsibility. The perfect combo for slavery.

@inr Hi, could you please give one info about Oracle comp structure. The comp structure they provide, I have heard they provide all fixed in most departments (i.e. no annual variable pay/bonus). So let’s say that amount is 24 lpa. So monthly it becomes 2 lpa. From this monthly 2 lpa, what all deductions they do apart from taxes? Do they deduct all three- employer pf, employee pf, and gratuity? Or do not deduct all three, but 1-2 of these?

Heartbreaking letter by the mother. I wish Govt starts dragging these CEOs and corporate heads to court for these instances, in fact they should start getting tried for abetment to suicide for such cases where some clear evidences of pressurising exists.

We need good labour laws like EU. RIP

Laws definitely, but also a cultural change around health and work-life. Companies are doing a disservice to themselves by burning out their employees. It's a well known fact that happy employees are the most productive.

We are having conversation in the office everyone is like khud decide karke nikal jaana chaiye tha and typical Victim blaming. Unfortunately I am part of one of the big 4. I don't know what's wrong with the people and organisations.

Ask the question to these group of people if they would have left the job being a fresher to the corporate world without having experience?

This is the story of every Big4s, I work in Deloitte. We have the same story here as well! I am getting calls from my teammates on every other day regarding their work stress, in fact I am also going through the tremendous pressure, but this taught me an art of saying No to anyone on face I don’t care whether they will like it or not.

I have worked in Deloitte before and I can relate to this. Especially as a fresher when you don't know what to do and you know you cannot get out without spending 1-2 years in the firm. People just exploit freshers a hell lot more. I have cried multiple times in the washroom of the office and come back to work. Worked continuously without any lunch break or coffee break or even dinner breaks. Even the loo breaks would be watched upon by my lead - saying why does it take 10 mins for the loo trip. That is the level of toxic environment that is normalised in the Big4 and many IT companies. But people still choose Big4 any day over other IT firms because Big4 pays more. For a lot of people earning money is very important. Not everybody has the luxury to "leave". Many have to support their families and pay off loans.
