24 and LOST

Hey hi I can't tell how much I relate your post. "Now I should be working hard.. don't feel like doing it" -Yess🫂 this does happens. In my unemployment phase ~6Months, this was one of my biggest dilemma. I was clueless. Questioning my career choice. Questioning my worth, value, dreams. Literally everything. I was at home, with nothing. Even though I had belief that I am good & do deserve, but it was just not happening. Remaining motivated is next to impossible. "Never been so excited about idea" - So so agree. Watching my friends working with big companies, enjoying their life. Stepping into something new & here I was desperately waiting for an offer, waiting to work, waiting to build product, live the life. "Cleared few rounds.. heart crushing rejections" - 🫂 Warm hugsss.. what you are going through can't be learned or taught. This experience and the personality you are developing is one of the biggest asset for you in this duration. I can't comment on what you wanna be, but yes use this phase to explore.. explore different fields, engaging with different people/communities (twitter, discord).. find wise people. Talking specific about hiring, please head over to LinkedIn - see which companies are hiring & text people in & out - not for referrals but to recruiters - be RUTHLESS, even if you mail 100 people, all we want is 1 job.. and don't think what they will think, you want job right? Nobody can't understand the phase. Text small startups on Twitter (if small startups, building products from scratch, learning excites you) And be gentle with yourself, at the end you will be fine. 🫂 All the best!!! + Do write about all this somewhere. I believe even with 9 months of experience, you can still apply to some entry level software engineer positions. Almost all companies give more preference to someone with some experience rather than a fresh college graduate. There are many companies which only prefer development work and your skills rather than DSA. Focus on those companies and start from any low paying job it's better than sitting idle. If you don't like the software engineering field, you can go for an MBA from a good college and enter into management. I mostly see females opt for this after gaining some experience. Make a strong linkedin profile and build a good connection. Connect with people from different companies and ask for a referral. Last but not least - Don't loose hope 🍀 All the best! 😊

Don't become an engineer. Most of us (especially the highly skilled ones) are introverted nerds and pick and choose our own circle instead of randomly "networking" with any random person. This is your chance to think and make some life changing decisions. What do you like? What do you want to do? Do you like whatever you are trying to get into? Or are you just following others?

I'd suggest that you try to persist for some more time. Let me share the real story of my two friends who got laid off. The first one got 2 job offers in just 1 month but the second one has to wait for 9-10 months. I know them from college and both are at relatively similar skill levels. So please have some patience, trust me, you will get through it. And the fact that you mentioned about it's not your calling - I think if your family is filthy rich and can support you throughout your personal struggle for personal ambitions then go for it else first get the job, save some money and then in your time - ponder about your other hobbies or interests. Most of the guys who join MNCs, don’t like it initially, most actually dislike it. Because well, it is nothing like dreamy job. But still, they remain there, for the financial security of it, for the money they earn. And that security itself provides them a safe zone to think and decide what to do next. Some then go for MS, some go for MBA, some even prepare and move to Govt Jobs! And of course many stay put and stay long. So just have patience. And if you can afford and if you can crack MBA exams to go for top colleges, go for that! Best wishes.

If you feel you're good at networking and building from scratch, you should try starting up. A coder who can sell is a deadly combo in the market, rarely found. Feel free to DM, maybe i can help with pointers. But do keep in mind, startups are way more challenging than MNC jobs.

Umm, I would say this started happening with me from 2 months back, my job used to excite me earlier but suddenly I lost interest not only in my job but everything that I used to love earlier. Actually I'm a very lively person who wants to interact with people but I'm not able to put forward myself as my true self in front of others irl. It's actually a shallow feeling in which I'm behaving opposite to what my mind wants. It's actually a painful thing that is happening to me I would not have imagined that these thoughts would run over my mind earlier but they have now. In your case I feel it might be similar that either you are low in confidence due to layoff and starting questioning your credibility or you have never had interest in this field. Don't lose faith in your abilities, hardworking and determined people frequently start questioning their abilities even in small setbacks. You know I used to set goals for myself but now I don't like pursuing it, don't know how our complex minds are designed to work. What I have seen especially for myself is that the more i vent out I feel relaxed, yeah it's always told that keep your lows to yourself but I feel it's better to vent them out, even just after writing here on grapevine gives me a sigh of relief.
