Have you significantly outgrown your peers in the industry?

A paradise for rest and vest people on the right team - Do under 40 hours and get normal rating - System is self healing, you can break something and don’t care - Deadlines are a joke - No responsibility - Can ignore pings and care about anything A nightmare for career growing mindset people - Tech island - Hard work are all abstracted away - Promo is too fucking complicated - Overhired and slow growth equals to slow promo - Politics growing everyday. Basically hunger game to fight for impact and projects Google is not the same anymore, things are changing rapidly & soon it will be worse.

I know many oldies who should be fired immediately. Forget tech, they are not even able to manage teams properly. Even so called "Seniors/Leads" don't know how to be one, if you question them, somehow it hurts their ego and you need to follow/respect them because they were born earlier ? Tech should be limited to max till 12 years of work experience only, rest should transition into some other career, start your own startup or business or something but don't be an employee in a big company.

So I've met many PMs in my career. Most have been sub par, poor performers, can't even do IC work. The ones who can do IC work, can't think. The IC work is generally project management not product. They need someone to tell them directions So here's a few things. The best PMs I've met, are good engineers. Yes. These are the same folks who come for product management conferences and are respected. Of course not all engineers are good at product. The role of product came up with manufacturing first when you had product designers who worked with engineers and had a good understanding of both engineering limitations and user understanding. Some of the PMs I have met don't even talk to users. The reason i am seeing an issue in PMs in India is the increase in demand in the role, and a lack of supply. There is a product engineer role, I met a few folks who are doing that, they were amazing. Knew technology, users, product and super passionate. I'm not saying this is a hard and fast rule, I'm sure there are folks who have a natural inclination, so if you're an exception, understand that. Don't get offended by the statement

Hi, I am a 2023 passout btech graduate. Currently I am working as a full time SDE (Full Stack) in a well established startup (8 years old , Series A funded). It's been nearly half year here. My compensation is 10.5 lakh base + 4.5 lakh performance bonus + free lunch and snacks + Insurance (Including parents) benefits I am pretty good at DSA (around 2000 rating on leetcode, 4 Star at codechef in 2nd year itself, 2000+ dsa problems) I have worked in 2 startups as an SDE intern during college days and completed 5 internships overall out of which one was a US based startup. Also, I have many publications under my name over the internet. I had many offers when I was graduating from college. Most of the time people say, "Hey, you have done so much so Why are you not working in a big tech". Well I always wanted to work for big tech during college days but after I started working in startups my thought process changed as here I got the ownership of the product. Now it has been nearly 1 year since I started working in startups. Should I give it a try for big tech now? Would like to hear your views guys

So, I am an analytics guy with almost 5.5 YoE under my belt. My latest transition was to Phonepe that I made this year (feeling shitty here already, given the kind of work creating almost no impact) I saw a post on LinkedIn where the CEO of this startup recently raised some pre-seed funding (~1.5mn). Since I was following them for almost 6-7 months before this, I reached out to the founder on LinkedIn. We first had a virtual call where we got to know each other and after that discussion, he called me over to his place where we further talked about the idea, the scope and the future while also discussing what I could bring to the table. Post that, we met again, and this time with the other co-founder who deep-dived a slight bit into the tech stack that I had worked on. It seems that all is going well, but the founder, in the first face to face meeting told me that for the time being (for almost the next 3-4 months), he'll be able to pay me a monthly amount which is less than half of my current in hand pay, post which it'll be reviewed and adjusted accordingly. How do I negotiate this now? Also, since the team size is super small (only 5 full time folks and one customer support part timer), how do I negotiate on what equity I take (looking for a benchmark number here)?

What is your take on Software engineering learning in a startup than in a Big tech ? Like how does it impact one's career growth ? P.S. Please consider Zomato etc. to be big tech and not startups. Thank you

Startup ecosystem seems to be going through a tough time recently. with less money infused in the market, and all the big player laying off employees, companies stooping so low in the name of cutting down the cost and news about some companies treating their employees like shit. Still my optimistic ass believes that it can’t all be that bad, right? and things might get better. Here’s my question to the community, what are some companies you would like to work for and why(apart from money 😉)?

Folks working in FAANG or comparable large tech companies, do you miss your startup days, does big tech give same level of exposure and learning opportunities. What do you miss the most ? With well funded startups I see a few benefits - 1. Not being cash strapped so more stability 2. Large scale so good exposure and impact 3. Good engineering practices as large startups are open to adopt and provide resources for learning and integrating new technologies 4. Company still has speed of execution hence plenty of exciting work 5. Comparable pay scale to big tech companies What are some added benefits of large tech companies now that layoffs have become a common trend across the industry ?
