Best kind of manager
What is the best kind of manager?
The best manager lets you do your work and log off after you finish your work.
LOL I agree! I’ve had managers who have pinged me on Sundays asking for work. That would be the opposite of what you describe.
My manager goes through the cycles of all the options you've outlined in a day
I found the smooth talker, friendly type, less technical to be the worst. It's hard to get valuable feedback from them because they are usually sugarcoating things. Personally, I like people that are direct. Direct feedback might be harsh but I can grow from it.
True. I currently have a manager like this. She doesn't know anything technical and likes to speak a lot.
In my experience the smooth talkers were good at smooth talking my promo to skip managers
Approachable, understanding and giving you the freedom to explore. My manager is supercool. Proactive in giving suggestions, feedbacks and not just on my work but on overall personality development as well.

Best manager is the one who respects the boundaries of work each of teammates has to do
Someone you can keep in touch with when either you or the manager leaves the company. And then the conversation should become more open
Someone who inspires you to work through his work and asks why haven't you taken any time off every quarter.
- Leads by example
- Is doing well enough himself in the org and wants you to succeed too
- Is atleast 5+ years senior to you so he can teach you something
The best kind of manager is that who pushes you to stay in a company, then switches as soon the company goes down and lies to everyone on which company they are going.
Definitely not the one who asks you "Why is this not completed yet?", and when you explain the challanges the manager says "Don't give me excuses, I just want the date"
One who can guide you throughout your career and enables you to grow for the next roles.
