totally  true.  You  can build influence only  when you  are in a position of power. Unless you are in leadership position or the leader asks for feedback do not give any  idea. That's not your job.  Those people are paid to do that. 
Just  like a doctor who treat only  for the symptoms said by the patient. Not for any  other disease which he /she may  know before the patient's starts getting the symptoms.   Behave like that.

Here you have two scenarios. Which one would you choose?

1) You're into software and doing good, and earning well.. like around 50-60 maybe or even more down the line like 80. You have a family and are giving them proper time. But you do not have that much power in the company since you're just a developer or lead or architect.


2) You did your mba and became a consultant or something in finance and down the line even one of the top roles in a company. Earning in Cr, but not able to give proper time to family and festivals. But your family will be proud of the status you have in professional life and will give that respect. Not just family but even outsiders.

Sometimes I feel that the work I am doing in the office is worthless. It is providing no value to the client nor does it help me. I am able to answer the technical questions of the client which help in their business decisions and I think that's what keeps me employed. But I still feel I am wasting my time and I really don't know what I should do. Does anyone else face a similar issue or is it only with me? Also have someone come out of this and would like to share their experiences.

DevOps Engineer

Context: Hated my life in my previous job, work wise it was not bad.
Now, I don't hate my life as much, but work wise, it's really not good. 
Wayyy too operational, pressuring and salesy. I chose this, but I thought I would've been given some more time to mentally prepare myself, which didn't happen. 

Here's the kicker: the company is great, pay is also not bad. Not sure what I'll do if I'm not here and it was tough getting here. Recruiting hell leeches on me.

What can I do now? Any advice?

So I am working at a startup for around a year now. Everyday I see, it feels, what am I really doing? Where is the life headed? 
    Doing bare minimum or doing your tasks and fucking off isn't enough. It's expected that we outgrow constantly, as if it's this work that we can always think about and nothing else. At the end, am wondering if it's still worth it?
    1 day it feels that let's just quit it! Next day I feel, okay, I do want the money. 

I ain't looking for suggestions here, just wanted to see if anyone else felt this way

Getting increasingly bored of work at startup

Been there, but money is very important especially for a middle class family, for most of us we are earning 5x more than our parents at least and have huge expectations from families to provide them with good life

Bit of background: 23, graduated from tier 1.5 CS degree. I’ve never worked hard in my life, can’t recall a day from past 6-7 years where I’d spent over 6hrs in a day doing something productive. 

I’ve been blessed with good problem solving and street smartness, cracked really good tier 1 companies without even prepping, got really interesting international achievements, got good communication skills. Most of exams etc I gave in my life, I scored high without prep. This is a lot of brag, yes, but now working at a corporate things are going downhill for me.

I’ve realised that hardwork beats talent every time,  people around me are getting ahead by working and doing productive things, whereas I’m spending most of time scrolling reels and watching yt vids. My manager and other seniors have mentioned multiple times that I’m not performing well and need to work much harder. I have set up really high standards for myself but I’m doing nothing to achieve them, I try to setup new goals and doing things but I know, that has never worked for me in my life. I envy people who are able to work multiple hours in a sitting and do those things again, everyday.
I’ve seen my dad working really hard as well, waking up at 4:30 for business, then working late till 12 for all my childhood. I really feel I’m going to be the failure, everyone has setup high standards for me, but I just can’t commit to anything.

I’m really in the lowest point of my life, need a bit of advice, thanks!!

Yeah Same Bro, My Office lacks a culture of keeping folks motivated, it fails to give a reason for people to come to office. No office parties or informal catch-ups for over a year makes it worse.

I know most of us don't have a choice as we need to earn to make our livelihood, but what keeps you going day in and day out? Or do you just wait for the weekends. I think very few people get to do what they love doing. So how do you get through the week ? What do you tell yourself ?

How's screen time looking for last week?

So basically it all started out with my curiosity and me being good at maths and solving analytical and logical problems. Even though I like it doesn’t mean I should be used to do it for like everyday to get paid I mean like my brain literally feels like a 8-core CPU who is constantly working and throttling at 50-80% CPU usage to solve and understand problems that are not mine. Also it’s like I am a computing engine with a life of 20-30 years and completely replaceable with other computing engines like me, they can be better or worse than me I m not gonna be the judge for that. So I feel like I don’t think my life’s goal was to become a computing engine for someone else. This is a recent thought of mine, what do you guys think of it ?

My Life After Being A Backend Engineer

Currently I’m a software engineer in corporate. But now my company has full demotivated environment and I’m not able to work or deliver my tasks.
I’m applying for other companies also . But don’t even get interviews scheduled.

What should i do?
Should i go for govt jobs also?
Should i resign first then decide?
Should i continue working ?
Should i think about career switching?

My brain itself is not braining , and filled with such thoughts.

What to do?

I see a lot of posts about WLB, I want to know what do you consider as a decent WLB. I will go first.

1. Leave early if the work for that day is done
2. No pings and calls post work hours, there are always exceptions and thats okay, should not become a norm
3. Respecting when someone is in vacation and not disturbing them.
4. Not rejecting leaves 

I will add more in comments If more comes to my mind.

Hi, I am a software developer have been in IT  for last 8 years. I have seen a lot of post here saying they are confused to choose between a Very high ctc and pretty much good ctc + permanent WFH. If it was me i would be happily choosing the latter, but its not me and  i always get WFO offers. I don't want such High ctc's, just 9 hour weekdays and weekends holidays.Which skills are you guys having to land such offers,which industry are you working for. I would like to know about your skills ,domain and industry you are working for.

Advice needed to change my work life.

They have no life
They have nowhere to go
They have no one to be with
They have no passions outside work either

And they make your life hell as they become the baseline for comparison for all sorts of management from appraisal to work distribution.

Feel free to disagree with me, but I’m genuinely pissed today. How do you deal with them? I have a decent life outside work but lose most of it while trying to catchup to such people so that I don’t get fired.

How the F do I deal with overworkers?

I'm also like this brother. But why I work like this? 
 I come from a small village in India . Haven't got proper education or exposure. Not born with silver spoon and this is the only way to feed our family. We too have emotions like you, but sacrificing everything for our future and family. I strongly disagree with @Elon_Musk. Usually, only people who don't work hard do like that.

I will be starting my career in tech as an FTE next month. Although I wanted to start in a PBC, life had other plans for me.
Need some advice or maybe something which you wish you knew if you were my age for a successful career in tech.
Learning and growth at utmost priority, don't care much about wlb at least till I am not 30
PS : base is 17 but have a huge amount of loan to repay.

Need advice from millennials

At young age you should focus only on 2 things, career and money.  
  
 Career: Try to learn as much as possible in whatever you do. Take initiative and show enthusiasm for anything new. Anyone can code, but people who take initiative and has the ability to learn new things quickly are the one who make it big. Build a good relationship with your colleagues. Your network is your networth.  
  
 Try to get as much clarity in life as possible. Talk to seniors, learn about their journey, why they made certain decisions. Trust me having clarity in life as to what you wanna do in life is a cheatcode.  
  
 Money: No matter how much you make, you can always save money. Invest that money into index funds. Investing early on in life will put you years ahead of your friends. Compounding is real. Here's a simple rule you can follow: 50:20:30. Spend 50% on basic needs, 20% on your wants and invest the rest 30%.  
  
 Don't buy expensive things just to show off. Literally no one cares.

I get a lot of work and sometimes I forget about everything else.
