Ego badi gazab ki cheez hai!

Writing this while chilling on desk in office. Office has different sorts of folks. You get/ create your own tribe in it. Everyone has different objectives of being in a group.😂 It really seems interesting when you realise the big picture and visualise how one behaves in this interesting drama🤣 Some background, I am in medium scale MNC service based firm where around 30-40 folks come to office for free food, out of 1300-1400. (Yes, WFH exists) HR was planning to have dance in annual event where CEO will be coming. Dance duration is max 10 mins. Choreographer is arranged for dance. ONLY 12-15 people show interest and had around 1-1.5 weeks for practice. Dance is set, now it becomes interesting when it comes to practice, every one almost avoids it, except a few. The reason is clear who is going to look at dance when they are surrounded by food and drinks. So, there are 2 groups, one who is in a group doesn't want to be in that group because his friend is in another group. Senior folks are offended as juniors are teaching them how to dance 🤣 Obviously, One abruptly said, I am not going to be part of practice today. Let's see what happens more often!😂 One more week for the party, will post the next update later!😂

dirty tricks played by orgs to Lay Off employees

It's getting dirtier by the day and sure some orgs are still up to their dirty tricks. The models: - Appraise and then Lay Off: Why bother putting bandaid on a stab wound? Anyways the folks are going to fight how to answer the ..why were you laid off war, and now you are adding another twist.. why were you appraised and then laid off? - Low appraisals to force quit: Undervalue them so they leave on their own. It’s a leeches way to cut costs. Kill morale 100%. Severance penny spent $0. - Trap them in PIP: Dress it up however you want - very very few escape this death sentence. - Silent treatment: No assignments, No meetings. Watch them spiral into anxiety and leave to save their sanity. - Workload overload: Drown them in work until they break. No need for layoffs list until they make it to your collapse list first. - Strategic reorg: Re-organize them out of existence. Offer a demotion or a proxy role in a random team that you know they dont want as an alternative. - Sudden policy changes: oh! I have seen so many I can't keep up with this one. New policies that make their life hell. People leave to escape your pettiness. - Mandatory relocation: Demand they move to an undesirable location. Then you treat remote employees like outsiders. Exclude them from key projects, conversations until they feel like foster care kids, second-class citizens. You know the outcome from there on. - Use the "Culture Fit" excuse: Call out how they’re not a culture fit. Vague, unchallengeable, and forces them out without severance. And don't sell me "the org has got to do what it has got to do to survive" line. I don't buy that If you have seen this being done, I understand your silence, but I don't value it. If this has been done to you or someone close to you, I am sorry. Orgs and the people failed you. We could be 1000x better than what we are operating as.

Working from Office

Am I the only one who likes working from office (Bengaluru)? I go to office every day, and it helps me to be more productive. - There will be no distractions - Team mates will be around, and if there is any queries, I can straight away ask them rather than typing a message or setting up a call - Occasional chit chats - Having lunch together - being a part of all the conversations happening - Managers works from office - a good rapport with him as well - Free food - Free Transport (can mates - another plus point) - Good work set-up - Meet new people almost every day - Build/deepen real connections every day - Interact with folks starting from entey level to senior directors or VPs regularly (L1 - L9 is the range mentioned here) FYI: I moved to Bengaluru for work, although I've the option to work completely remote. One of my team member even mentioned that he has not yet been able to connect with the team member who has joined before me, like how he could connect with me. I understand that once people have family, it will be difficult to manage everything. One of my team mate actually mentioned that, he used to do/manage everything properly before Covid, but it's kind of not easy/lazy since Covid. I also realise that not everyone has the above perks, but still. Commute can be an issue. I travel 50+ KMs every day to and fro. I start by 7 am in the morning to morning traffic, and take around 75 minutes in the evening (I can survive the traffic without having to use my mobile 😂) I do miss my family frequently, but I do have the flexibility to go home and stay a few days when I want. Staying alone in a service apartment is the only disadvantage as of now.
