Or Should I work at unknown startups or companies (eg: early-stage startups or local companies) with higher pay? (x2 the salary here).

How is the work culture at Start-ups, in my startup where i am working, the work culture is too bad, it seems no one cares about the company. 
Everyone has their own priority and they are using the company for their growth.

I received 2 offers recently, for context I'm graduating this year-

1 - a PPO for an early stage startup I have been interning for. TC - 10 base + share of revenue generated. Essentially it is a founders office role, but will be closing sales too. Good culture, profitable. 

2- Browserstack for SDET role, TC - 11 base + 5 performance pay+bonus. 

Conflict is - should I choose the startup due to its potential high returns and my preference for the founders office role or BS for stable income and brand value ?

Hi, I have an offer from Company A and my joining date is in next 2 weeks. But just last friday i got another offer from Company B with much higher salary than A. 

But I have interest to work on Company A. Do you think I could negotiate with Company A so close to the joining? Has anyone done it before and what was your result?
I'm worried if they may rescind the offer if I asked. Appreciate if anyone could shed some light on how to approach this.

Considering the following two offers:

IBM
Training location: Bengaluru
After completion: PAN India
Role: Associate System Engineer
Comp: 4.5 LPA with 25k joining bonus.

Product based MNC with 2-5k employees worldwide.
Office in Bengaluru.
Role: Associate Product Engineer
Comp: 9 LPA

If you compare the compensation, then it feels like a no-brainer decision.

But IBM is more recognisable and I feel it might add weight to my resume for future switches.

Passed out in 2023. Only intern experiences previously.

Any advice?

Hi all, i am 5 yoe software dev. Right now i have few good offers
Samsung - less pay, good project, chance to move to Bangalore (java + cloud heavy)
Eventbrite - nice pay, python + Django profile (i come from java background) + remote work
Which one should i go for? 
My worries are, in next switch i might struggle to attract recruiters cause i am not sure if recruiters know eventbrite brand 
On the other hand with Samsung less base pay i might struggle again to improve my compensation in future switches. 
It feels like 2 sides of a coin. Maybe i am overthinking too much. But i would really appreciate your advice

Are there folks on the vine who have experienced previous down cycles?
Financial crisis of 08-09 or the funding winter in 16-17?

What would you suggest someone who has been laid off on how to navigate career trajectories given the uncertainities ahead. Many folks would have planned their career paths but due to the change in situations all of this has gone for a toss. 

Should people settle for lower pays or lower designations? How does it impact the trajectory ahead

Guidance on navigating down cycles

Software Developer

Hi I have dedicated 3 years of my life working day night to build a brand in ecommerce segment, from product sourcing to selling, finance reconciliation and cashflow management. I am getting 10% of profits after all expenses plus have 3% equity [to be offered soon]. But my pay is not more than 1 lakh per month and I don't think I will be able sell equity anytime soon because my partner is a very rigid guy and nobody seems interested in investing in us. For past 1.5 years he has become sluggish as we are earning 6-7 lakhs and has drinking problems, all the major task are done by me and i dont have support to hire right kind of people as we are bootstarpped and everything is expected from me. I can take leave whenever i want but i am expected to work on sat sun too.

Now i have been offered 1.5 lakh per month plus incentive for similar role in an new brand as Brand Head of established and funded ecommerce company. They have funds for growth and a team for expansion.
Company COO belives in me and is offering this role, he knows his current team is foolish, lacks enthusiasm and slow to execute.

1. 3.5Lakh is pending to be paid to me from current firm. How should i approach to get that money?
2. How to convince my partner who is an industry veteran and my mentor that i want to leave?
3. Anything I should be confirm from latter company before quiting in previous firm.

Example:
Currently I am making 12 LPA as a marketer.
But I am worried about my future as I am finding it tougher to get hired for salary anything above than this. 

How about working at a fancy startup? (meesho, sugar, CRED, etc.) at a lower pay like 10 LPA - will it secure my future? As people prefer to hire ex-employee from these fancy startups. 

Or should I be searching for a 15 LPA or 20 LPA job but from a company or startup that no one ever heard about, adding no value to my CV while working there

A popular thread here on grapevine had some amazing stories on salary hikes. This thread is for the stories of people who let go of higher pay because of some reason.

Did you ever let go off higher pay offers than your current pay? Reasons could be anything (comfortable current role, better role somewhere else, took bet on a startup, location constraints, gut feelings, felt higher pay would come with higher pressure, etc.)

How did your decision pan out? Would you say you did the right thing?

Hey guys, 
I’m looking to switch companies as a Full stack developer(Frontend heavy)
I have 3 years of experience and quite content at my current job. Everything seems to be good.
However, I have been working here for little over 2 years now and feeling bored now. 

Is it okay for me to look for a change just to get a better salary and new exciting opportunities even though there’s nothing wrong at the current workplace?
If yes, please help with who’s hiring fullstack/frontend developer?
Salary expectation is > 40lpa( atleast 26 fixed)

Company suggestions

I just got a offer from one Indian Finance company for Pune location (I would have to relocate). They are giving 13.90 LPA, out of which 11 is fixed and 2.75 is performance pay. They have alternate Saturday working policy, WFO, strict office timings and lots of workload sometimes more than 9 hours of working.

What they have to offer is good appraisal cycle (> 10%), and a promotion in 18 months. 

Now my challenge is I joined a MNC X org in the second month of March with 12.55 LPA (10.5 is fixed and 1.26 is performance pay).

What they have to offer is Hybrid, chill environment, free lunch, good medical benefits, and WLB. What they don’t offer is good appraisal ( they have standard appraisal policy same for everyone around 4-7%) and promotion.

I’m confused on what to do!! 
I’m open to working on Saturday and with heavy workload, as the money is priority. But since I already joined company X and people here are so good. 

I’m looking for any suggestions or your personal experience. 

Note: I didn’t told to Indian finance company that I joined MNC X. And the profile is in Analytics one is BFSI and another one is HR.

I've got an opportunity to improve the public optics from a career pov. I've gotta grind it out for a 5 months at my current company for this to play out. With some leadserhip changes, the current job is a slow transition into project management.

I've also got an opportunity to move to another B2B SaaS company that's known to have a better mentorship all the way from CEO to my possible manager. This is somewhat of an immediate joining.

Pay is equally crap at both places. Esops will be better at new gig. 

I'm early in a popular niche — LLMs. I'll be able to continue on this niche in both companies. 
What do I do?

We all know the problem of IIT/IIM tags where candidates with better skills are not given the first preference, Is this changing or further strengthening in the system ? 

I think there is a need to break this systemic mis-thinking and it is already happening in someways. What are your views on this and do you see this changing or getting replacing with other tags ? 

Wouldn’t it be great if a platform exists where a new set of tags are created (Endorsed) purely on skills. Candidates can obtain this tags and display on their resume and companies can verify these credentials on the platform!

Hey all, I've recently recieved a couple of offers in the product management space and would be grateful if y'all could help me weigh in the pros and cons.

Context: I'm a Tier-1 engineering grad with <1 yoe.

1. Product analyst at an insanely profitable, bootstrapped startup in the gaming space (industry of preference). The product and strategy are best in class and would be a great learning experience. I would be working in the team associated with their primary cash cow business unit. However, I've heard that the working hours are slightly long and wlb would take a hit. Also, my pay would be quite high and if I were to make a switch for an APM role, there would be very few options that would give a hike over this given my YOE.

2. Associate Product Manager at Flobiz, a Fintech pivoting to be a neobank for SMEs. This was my first offer and on informing the HR that I would be taking up the other offer, the co-founder who had taken my final interview has requested me for a chat. The work culture seems great with a strong alumni network currently in the firm. They are ready to match the pay as well but ESOPs would probably not be liquidated any time soon. The brand name is inferior as well, compared to the other firm.
