So I am leading a project but before its finalisation it should go through different stakeholders for their input. One of the SMEs has rejected the part of work I sent to them. My manager also said they are looking to make it leaner - but in reality it is only going lengthier or similar. How do I tell my boss it is almost the same and we could have saved alot of time spent on duplicate work done by the SME?? SME just want to press on their importance because I refused their “offer” of help. Honestly, that requirement was not rocket science and there was no need their for an individual one on one. I had to get 8 times of it done and timelines are aggressive

I'm working as an APM at a startup for about a year now. I work with another guy who happens to be my senior, PM and both of us report to the director.

Of late, my senior, i.e., the PM has been undermining my work when the two of us are working together, subtly taunting me that what I've done is pretty easy and non impactful business wise. He also disregards the decisions made by me, modifies the PRDs discovered and written by me and mails them as his own.

Eventually, he ends up adding me to the walkthrough calls because I had discovered the features but then concludes everything such that he had owned everything end to end.

Recently, both of us were given a documentation to be done by our manager, i.e., the director. I had completed almost 70% of that document, but in our call with the director he presented it saying that he had written that document and I had made a few changes to it.

This undermines my work and visibility of my capabilities. I don't know how to tackle this situation, my manager is usually busy and leaves it upto this PM to allocate work, which he unfairly uses.

How do I talk to my manager about this. I'm fairly new to corporate, just graduated last year and don't know how to handle all this.

But this thing has been bothering me lately, really looking forward to any advise my fellow grapeviners may have.

Hey guys, i'm looking for a job switch from my stressful job, the work that is given to me is very complicated and it stresses me out. I have survived for 9 months in my current role but my mental health is not good hence I wish to leave ASAP.

I can't ask him to not give me complicated work as it won't look good, I think i was unlucky and landed in the wrong place.

I want to tell my manager that i'm job hunting due to my mental health

I think if I do this then he'll get off my back and stop pressing me to deliver quickly as he knows i'll be leaving. But with the current IT market and how the global economy has gone to shit, i'm not sure how long my job hunting will take. If it takes longer than 2 months then he'll think what this guy is still doing here.

How would you guys handle it if you were in my shoes. Asking for a team change wont work as most teams are crap, they'll have to change my department, which I don't think they'll do.

I was assigned a development task. We could not come up with a solution to implement few of the requirements from PM side. We managed to push an MVP after cutting down on few requirements. There are new requirements coming up related to this task. I have been unable to come up with a generic solution for this and I feel irritated when working on this task. No one from my team has knowledge or has worked on this task. I am ready to hand off this task to my teammates and have told my seniors that I don't want to work on it anymore. Any thoughts from fellow developers on my approach? Have you faced such issues?

To include juniors like me in project architecture level discussions, like if a new project is to be developed, what technology are going to be used, how you came to a particular solution, why only this solution is appropriate why not the other.

I want to involve juniors like me during this discussion and not after everything is finalized.

So they are saying we are not including some project managers, why should we include you. This will only cost you your time, sare din meeting kroge to kaam kb kroge...

I just want to gain that kind of thinking, mindset, and knowledge while developing a project or solutions

So thing is  In last 1 week my manager/project lead has been threating that you will have to work on weekend if you dont complete your task by friday and put the the task to testing.

And this boils my blood soo damnn much . But as a person who is on lowest level i cant do/say shit. I just disagree with him and dont argue.

feeling like I am literally in the worst phase of my life. Our company is taking ownership of an abroad project and those abroad folks are not supportive or even if they support us then they give little information so that we can't take ownership. so we freshers have to figure out everything, and now even after figuring out, my manager and higher management asks me anything with respect to the product(features, deployment, anything literally- it's a big & complex project) even though I am a fresher and don't even have the proper knowledge and then ask us to explain to them what we know, and it's literally frustrating to explain to every single guy every single time. Because the manager asks to prepare to explain to him and then to the higher manager and then whenever something is there they keep asking again and again to give a presentation or our ideas about it, but they don't even ask abroad folks when they are the one who is doing the work. I just feel like I can't keep up with this and I want to resign. How to say no to the manager for doing a particular work again and again or should I resign because I am feeling very low right now and still after 1 year it looks like I have wasted the time because I got to write code for maybe 5% and 90-95% feels like college presentation. Every time there's something and they ask the same thing 3-4 times, sometimes it would be give the x info or then y info and like this only  and because of that i can't do the real work or work on new features because the Indian manager and higher officials keep giving extra work which they should ask from US folks. What should I do please suggest

Wanted an opinion on how do you all tackle the assignment bit when it comes to assignments as part of hiring processes. One, how regular or normal is it at senior positions ? And two, I feel that a lot of times they just ask you to do everything that is expected of the job. Eg: Create a marketing strategy after analyzing landscape and top 3 competitors. Add graphs etc.
I always have a concern of getting most out of you. Since its at round 1 they would be getting multiple such assignments, which means by design lpt of this work will be a waste and lots of inputs freely sourced.
How do you all handle it ? Can you push back ?
P.S: Am from business/ marketing aide of things and not sure of how it works for techies/ product.

Whenever you a call PM fraud here, they come & put justifications like you don't know business, products built by Engineers are shyt, only PMs can build good products, engineers don't prioritize business needs bla bla.

A data scientist/analytics perspective:
1. When we call a PM fraud, we refer to mainly those who come without a background in either of tech or business. Cool wannabes straight out of college & learnt nothing but attitude over years.
If a PM was an engineer, or analytics, or business or ops, then others first see him/her as engineer/etc & then a manager. That's the right way it should be. 

2. 'Business won't be prioritized' is such a complacency:
Business is bread & butter of Analytics and AI. It is the primary thing we check in interviews, a large portion of the interview focus' on the problem statement and prioritisations.

End note: PMs are hot, but only when they have a solid foundation in stuff they are building. They need to know depths. Anyone apart from this breed are worthless & Indian startups are filled with this shyt
A best PM would be a senior engineer/analyst with penchant for business practicality & customer perspective.

Why of 1st Point? Because how can you manage a team when you don't even know what that team does? For eg: I can tell my PM any random blabbing about why model is working/not & she has no idea to judge my words. Leave AI, with tech pipelines too I can give any deadlines & justify it how would she know? Besides if they don't have tech background they bring in random expectations which is far away from feasibility. Why should any tech guy respect them? They can understand business req, connect with business teams and build better. That's the exact role of a project manager.

The colleague’s incompetence to take ownership is very evident now to everyone and the manager is not taking any steps on it. Others have to basically cleanup and babysit him. I have had a manager who has been bullish about the timelines of a 12 month long project. And has never contributed in any capacity. When I reach out to her for help, the high level responses are: “lets go deeper”, “lets be user first and figure out”. Is this appropriate?

There is this new PM who is making my life living hell. Sets up his own timeline without consulting me how much effort it will take me to execute. The requirements are fuzzy and changes while executing. I am having to delete a ton of my code because they can't keep the requirements frozen.

The problem is that, I am being pulled into meetings all day and I am having to code at night just to keep up with my tasks. My life has become work and I have no time for my self-care.

Haven't gone home in 6 months now. I don't know what to do now.

Hey guys.

While I know that there is this ridiculous practice of getting candidates who are applying for upper middle to top management roles to do an assignment, has anyone who has done that experienced 'being taken advantage of'.

The reason I am asking is cause I have done a couple of them (putting in decent effort and feeling quite confident) and got no calls in return. What makes it even more shady is that I don't get feedback even after asking for it a couple of times. There was once when I saw the same inputs that I gave being put in practice which infuriated me.

Any inputs?

I've seen a glaring issue with DS in India: desis don't genuinely want real insights. The boss only want insights that agree with his gut feeling. I always thought that we had to uncover truths.

The moment your analysis contradicts the boss's intuition, your work is dismissed. It’s disappointing as fuck. Unless your product is uniquely DS/ML/AI-led, you are mostly a yes-man, bending data to fit a narrative that keeps the management comfortable. The truth? They don't want innovation or disruption; they want affirmation of their outdated ideas.

This attitude fucks up creativity and growth. How can I progress when data is manipulated to pacify your ego. The truth is that ego leads to poor decision-making and business failures.
