If you are experienced, then it is easy to figure out if they are using LLMs by asking a few questions around this . A few people have also started allowing LLMs in interviews.  There is a revolution coming where most of the developers will be using LLMs to do development and you will be left behind if you don’t adapt . Even if someone is using LLMs I would see how the person is able to leverage LLMs to arrive at the solution . I am more interested in the persons approach in arriving at a solution to the problem than the solution itself.

I do not agree with this. “A few people have also started allowing LLMs in interviews.”- which company does this?curious! I know in rounds like system design which are open minded, you are not even allowed to google stuffs.  
 I agree somehow when development we are expected to use these tools, even i do. But I won’t encourage anyone or any junior to practice that for coding interviews especially DSA, machine coding rounds.

Has anyone tried using AI tools or ChatGPT during interviews? I have seen my friends doing so, but I am unsure how feasible it is! Most of the coding questions are lengthy paragraphs, and when we type them into ChatGPT, it takes a longer time. Even for normal technical questions, there is a lag between asking ChatGPT, receiving an answer and presenting that to the interviewer. Have any of you successfully used ChatGPT to ace technical interviews? Share your experiences.

P.S.: Yes, there is an unethical aspect to it, I agree! But a small attempt won't hurt, right? Please don't curse me!

Using AI/Chatgpt in coding interviews!

I could solve general problems from arrays, trees, sorting and all. I would fail miserably when the interview goes in the direction of DP problems. After a point I realised it actually doesn’t matter, you will find enough places where you are valued for your skills. 

Been a person who was on the both sides of the table, more on the side taking interviews. I realised one thing how many of us end up writing those fancy TSP code or backtracking etc day in day out. Almost most of the code we write is in some form a version of CRUD and its a reality.
Someone getting hired in google is not going to be assigned to improve their search algorithm. I know a lot of ppl who joined and left google because they were not getting to work on meaningful stuff. 

I ask real life programming stuff and I try to judge based on that, I want to see given a real scenario how the candidate thinks rather then knowing how good the person is in solving some DP problem.

Some ppl can write real good code without realising that they are actually using the best practices and design patterns and not remembering the patterns name, it sometimes just comes naturally

I suck at DSA, realized its okay.

I am a fresher working as a Data analyst in a growing startup. My current role doesn't include much of coding just python and SQL and sometimes little bit ML work. Currently handling 2 projects, and some of PM work to define some roadmaps.
I like engineering and coding in whole and want to know more. So do I switch to some SDE role or is there are more paths after Data analytics? I know ML, DL and NLP but not sure will it be a great choice to make career primarily in Data science.
So, I am little confused. Please give all good advices.

I just think we should skip DSA rounds for existing FAANG employees.

I understand the importance of DSA rounds and is pretty much required for SDE 1 roles as their major work is to code. But for higher levels, it starts becoming less and less relevant and pointless.

In most companies DSA is to understand the basics of the candidate, can they write code, explain the problem and thought process. Now most FAANG interviewers look for the same thing. Now once I have cleared one that means I have proved myself to be someone who meets the bar, doing it again is just like "Well, have you continued grinding leetcode after getting the job". You can check design competencies, problem solving in design, mentoring etc. but why ask DSA and go through that gruelling interview process.

The lack of critical thinking these days is driving me nuts. I've got a few people on my team who've somehow BS'd their way into roles they can't handle. They can't do anything that takes more than a minute of actual thought.

It's like all I get is copy-pasted ChatGPT output for the simplest questions. Makes me seriously worried about how they will get better over time (as a lot of us did).
We're churning out folks who can't think for themselves, and it's scary as hell.

Wondering how much does not knowing DSA and lack of practice of LC hurt your chances of getting hired ?

For context I am an sde with 1 yoe from tier 1 college been out of touch with dsa for over 1.5 yrs and I am planning on making my first job switch, I believe I know my job very well and am good at what I do better than most of the people around me but just out of touch with dsa.

What would happen to all the AI startups that are raising massive rounds at insane valuations once OpenAI improves GPT-4 (some spicy rumours are going around) or comes up with GPT-5?

Most of these "AI" startups are just a wrapper around these existing, capable LLMs. Better versions of these LLMs would start generalising more and doing those specific functions done by these startups much better.

Is there anyone here who is into Generative AI testing or development as part of the job role? 
The LLMs today are at best generic question answering machine. The answers are not deterministic. How do you think would these be deployed at scale?

I feel there is a serious disconnect between what we do in our day to day job vs what's asked in interviews. I like learning new tech but I hate doing interview prep like doing Leetcode, LLD, HLD. I would much rather talk about the work that I am doing, my personal projects, etc during interviews but all high paying jobs like FAANG/big startups will always ask DSA and all during interviews regardless.

How should I spend my time in learning new tech vs doing interview prep as I feel the interviews have gotten much harder and it takes a long time to get proficient in DSA, LLD, HLD?

Yeah, you heard it right. Whatever these “gurus” and course scammers are shilling in the name of prompt engineering and crores of salary is 💩.

Heads up, companies are already working on augmenting prompts using Natural Language Generation techniques which build on top
of Generative techniques like GPT and other Transformer based Architectures.

This is exactly the same as when Search Engines came out and you had to know the right queries to search for to get the answer, perhaps use flags like “site:wikipedia.com” 

Do we have anything like a Search Query Engineer?

As things advance, the human edge of refining prompts will be automated to the highest degrees. Perhaps, Subject Matter Experts will guide for commercial or enterprise level use cases but apart from that….

NO! You will not become rich by becoming a Prompt Engineer.

Perhaps, now is the time to look at the next frontiers of AI and work on the cutting edge, that’s the best way to future-proof.
