A lot of times career is only small part of your world. Have friends and family to speak to. I've had a tough career, tough bosses, toxic workplaces but realised one thing having a circle back home to talk to is the most important because they will pull you out of this rut.  
  
 Curre tly.my travel time is 4 hours 2 hours each way and hate it and on top of it my.project is getting scrapped and Im being shoved in a new team and Im not getting past in interviews as well. Mentally exhausting but I know that something good will come i just need to wait.

I was recently interviewing at a big MNC and gave 5 rounds of interviews. (4 Tech, 1 Managerial). I did fairly well in the interviews (according to me).
Got rejected in the end and received no feedback... Just a generic rejection mail.

How do you guys keep up with failures like these?
Whenever I give interviews at a good company and perform well, I tend to imagine myself as a future employee in that company and how my life would be after joining there... and it really breaks my heart when I get rejected. This happened to me few times before as well and I still have no idea how to move on from feelings like these.

Really interested to know what do you folks do in situations like these... How do you calm yourself down?

Hi folks,
I recently got laid off from a startup where 50% of the engineering team was let go. I was working as an SDE and during a restructuring, my role was changed to SDE-2 without any increase in pay or responsibilities. I have a total of 2.5 years of experience. In my first company (where I worked for a year), there weren't many projects, so I didn't have the opportunity to learn or code much. However, in my second company, I primarily worked on the backend using Go, Django, Kafka, MongoDB, & PostgreSQL.
I realize that although I gained exposure in my second job, I didn't delve deeply into the technologies. I mainly focused on completing business tasks quickly, learning new things just to finish the task at hand, without solidifying my understanding afterward.
My experience seems suitable for an SDE-2 role, but I'm unsure if I can perform the role with complete honesty and may struggle. Some friends in similar situations reassure me that this struggle is common in SDE-2 roles. However, I feel I might be better off starting again as an SDE-1, focusing on my weak areas, and aiming for a promotion later. There are very few SDE-1 job openings currently.
I am actively interviewing for SDE-2, and not able to clear system design interviews. Tbh, I feel very humiliated as when I am not able to answer their questions it feels like I am wasting their time or they would be thinking: Oh this guy has been working for so long and doesn't even know anything.

Now I get it why people think Indian Software engineers are not that good in comparison to other countries' devs: the reason is people like me. 
This realization burdens me with guilt, occupying my thoughts constantly. However, I am confident that I can crack SDE-1 easily. I have good DSA & good enough LLD, &HLD skills for SDE1. I am looking for companies who can match my prev Salary: 22 L, 2 Bonus.
Can u help how to navigate this career situation effectively without increasing my guilt or feeling constantly humiliated?

Laid Off | Stuck Now | Too Anxious | Please guide

First work on the feeling of humiliation and self worthlessness. Don't ignore this, I've done it and it's one of my biggest regret. Working on this will feel a waste of time initially given job search is highest priority, I assure you your future self would thank you.  
  
 Now you are clearly very self aware, most incompetent people don't even know their shortcomings. And you know what, many comparatively incompetent people are making much more money, having much less self doubt and just living more - it's like being more self aware is a curse.  
  
 How do you get out of this curse? It's a slow process. Write down the things that make you feel that way, come up with an an action plan on what you could do to reduce that - clear goals and actions always relive anxiety. Writing things down is extremely important, keep coming back to it whenever you feel the same way, eventually you would reason your way out of this. Most of the time you are in a loop, living in guilt and self doubt for the same reasons over and over. Documentation of these feelings over time will make it look so silly, how could the same problem give you so much mental pain again and again.  
  
 You will do just fine career wise. With a few more years of experience, I can guarantee you will evolve over time, the problems giving you so much mental pain would seem very trivial then - that if you are able to resolve these feelings - otherwise it's a hell I wouldn't want for my worst enemies.  
  
 Some questions to ponder over -  
 1. Can you do the job search while being just a little gentle on yourself? 
 2. Does failure mean you have no worth? Can you fail more gracefully?  
 3. Does 2.5 years of mistakes(even if it see that way) mean you can't do amazing things in coming years? 
 4. Above all, does feelings of humiliation and worthlessness help you in any way? If nothing else changes, wouldn't it be better to just be a little gentler on yourself? 
  
 Take care, you don't have a career problem, a mental health one instead

It can be anything related to not doing something you always wanted to but never did, a mistake you realize you shouldn’t have made, or feelings of not being successful enough. Feel free to share your thoughts.

Failed to spend enough time with my parents. Life moves really fast. If you're around your parents take care of them, spend time with them and if you're away then make sure you visit them often ☮️

I am 26M with close to 3 years of work experience and a MBA from a tier 1 college. I make decent salary, however I am not really enjoying my job. I am also depressed from working very hard the past 5 years with graduation, Covid and job Etc. I just want to take a few months off and focus on my mental/physical health. I also want to prepare for Product roles and try out some business/freelancing ideas I have.

My concern is how Career gaps are treated like a stigma in the industry. Like what was the use of working so hard and getting qualifications, if I cannot take a few months in between jobs to focus on myself. Can someone help me get some perspective?

I started a side business. These fuckers can have their promotions. I work for the salary now. I don't contribute beyond the basic limit.  It's liberating. I don't even laugh at the stupid jokes at meeting.

I woke up with a notification that started with “Hope you had a great weekend. Unfortunately…”

I didn’t have the courage to open the entire mail. I knew what it was. 

A little context here, i have been unemployed for the last 5 months. I got laid off from my first job with not even an year of work experience. We all know how bad the market condition is, and how harsh it is for freshers. Me being the optimistic person that i am, ignored all these setbacks and began my hunt for my next dream job. With the help of my friends, I started preparing for interviews. I was lucky enough to get shortlisted for few good companies. But somehow or the other things always went south and i ended up without an offer. I made sure to not get disheartened and keep trying my best with a positive attitude. And then i interviewed with this one company, that perfectly aligned with me. All my interviews went well and made it till the final round. Now it was a call from the leadership. I strongly believed that this is my shot. After months of feeling stuck, I thought this is going to be my moment of relief. Even though this journey was hard i made sure to enjoy every bit of it. 

But now here i am with another rejection mail. I am now questioning my entire belief system. And not sure what to do next.

Any advice/suggestions are welcome :)

Do not attach your work to your self worth. You are worthy of many things even if you don't have a dream job. Don't limit yourself or judge yourself this early in your career. Have patience and give it time. You'll be alright.

So, I fucked up an interview real bad 2 days ago, and my mind is unable to process it and cannot forget about it.

Don't know why I am feeling worthless from inside and feeling like this was my last interview. 

Maybe it's because of close to 40% hike I was getting on my fixed part.

Hi everyone, I'm a B.Tech. graduate in Computer Science with 7+ years of experience in sales and operations leadership, looking to transition into a product management role (PM/APM).

I recently completed a PG certification in Product Management with a specialization in Product Growth, where I honed my skills through projects and assignments. My passion for building and growing products led me to pursue this certification during a career break.

In my previous role (3 years), I spearheaded teams, driving revenue, growth, product adoption, customer satisfaction, and churn reduction.

Product Management newbie: Sales leader looking to learn!

I started as a fresher at a big service-based company, faced a lot of politics, and was learning nothing. I realized I needed to leave it ASAP. I left it after 8 months, then was jobless for 2 months.

After 2 months joined an early-stage startup, and was satisfied with my learning for a while, but in the backend team, there were only two people me and the CTO. And my dynamics with him didn't go very well. There was no culture as well, weekdays and weekends were the same. I was still fine with it but the guy (CTO) became very toxic and creepy.

In 2 months, I started interviewing and I got into a mid-sized series B startup that had a good culture.  I had to switch tech stack and it was more overwhelming than I thought initially. I tried to do good but I got laid off after working there for 10 months. All the way along I increased my package to a decent level.

Now I feel super demotivated and underconfident and it's been 6 months since and I haven't taken up a job. With an increasing gap, I feel I have fucked up my career.

In these 6 months, I have tried exploring different career options but haven't been able to crack any or have been indecisive and I feel I should just take up a job.

Seeking career advice

How to over come feeling defeated and anxious as I grow older in tech field biased towards younger lot and shiny new tech stacks.

Worked in WITCH companies, no hope of getting into product based at 11 yrs exp.

I am no way extraordinary technologically wise nor got chance to work on complex projects just standard Crud apps on different tech stacks like Asp.net and SAP Fiori/Hana.

I shudder to think of being jobless at 50 with no job with no pension and max responsibilities on my shoulders at that time .

Can someone provide pointers how to come out of this rut? I would be grateful🙏🏻

You can't follow your passion until you bring yourself in a position of making a choice. You keep overthinking about this everyday and hence you cannot perform at work. This demotivates you even more and suddenly it becomes a loop.
