I get where he was coming from. Maybe we all overreacted. It’s just his life experiences and what they’ve taught him.
Hearing from most ultra successful people. It’s what most of them have done. Even the AMA yesterday. It’s just maybe not for all of us and should just be a choice 😅
In October, Murthy triggered a nationwide debate when he said that if India's overall work productivity has to improve, then the youth must ...

Unfortunately financial incentives are not aligned for most jobs. And in a free market capitalist world where most people over index on money, what more will you expect.
Moreover, there’s not concept of overtime in most jobs, so people will ensure that they put effort equivalent to the money they are being paid.
That’s why RSUs/Cash bonuses etc. work. But just like Sam Altman said, most Startups end up being generous to investors with equity but not their employees when in fact it should be inverse.
No, we haven’t overreacted.
The simple debate is should be it outcome driven or just the number of hours. It’s simple. No Infosys isn’t a charity but a insanely profits driven company.

In majority of tech/creative jobs be it coding, designing, product management, etc. defining outcome is not that straight forward as it is in sales. In sales you can meet 3 clients a day, close X number of deals and you are done. Rest of the time is ours.
So for such roles, if you not define the working hours then it is very very difficult to manage a big organisation. More than organisation, it will be detrimental to employees (especially younger ones) who won’t know what to do with their available time. Some small % of them wound be super motivated and may work m themselves but not everyone will be that motivated.
You have to spend some more time understanding working model of many different companies. Good luck!

There's a huge ass difference in one working 12+ hours a day being the owner of the business, and working the same amount being an employee.
An employee is almost never rewarded the same way.
We’d not want him to mislead us by saying nah fam just chill. 40 hour work days will get you there. It would just be a lie.
I'll work the same hours as him, as long as I get the same stakes - sound fair?
If he's spent all his life and is still recounting his own lived experiences and believing that they're the only way to live, then maybe he deserves even more criticism for living life that way
