If the product in which you are working is in maintenance mode then yes. 
  
 Otherwise probably your org wants you to build some context before assigning you some new feature.

It's pretty common for freshers to be put on easier tasks like bug fixing until they are used to the organisation's development processes. 
  
 It's pretty rare to give new developers an entire feature to take responsibility over. Even with developing a new feature you're going to have a lot of debugging to figure out why things don't work the way you think they do - so it's decent experience when starting out...

- When you crack SDE Internship(MAANG types) at a big tech giant, do they give you general work or place you in a department that is along the lines of your projects and/or OSS contributions. Say I've got intermediate mobile engineering skills under my belt, will that be my department for the duration of the internship or I'll be expected to code to other 'alien-to-me' parts of the codebase. 
-What degree of skill proficiency do they expect. I'm sure I'm not founding any companies single handedly but still, for the heck of it: how skilled would you need to be to survive interning there daily?

I have an offer in a startup as data science intern but I’m new to it and a bit skeptical about it. The company is great but told me that my most of the work would be around data pre-processing, cleaning & visualisation and not developing machine learning models (will be given exposure).

But my concern is that what if I want to pivot to software developer role after graduation, should I go with it or look for an SDE Intern position.

Please help me here!

Razorpay probably has the most overrated engineering culture from the outsider's perspective. Everytime on Twitter there's some npc telling how Razorpay is a dream place to work at or how Razorpay engineering is the holy grail.
From inside it's hilarious that someone could even think of those things. There's no learning path, especially in payments business unit for engineers who are forever stuck in ad hoc tasks. There's no long term plan, no roadmap, just PM and EMs shoving down and hocs.
Even in terms of learning from peers, there are so few charters where someone works with a lead, mostly it's just slogging it out alone in an ad hoc or some bug fix.
It's almost always an eternal cycle of never working in impactful projects -> never get assigned one, because there are so few -> get average reviews -> again being asked to work on "impactful projects".
 If anyone is under 3/4 yoe they should stay away from razorpay for their careers sake.

Razorpay engineering - a rant

Hi everyone, I am currently working as SDE. I do my work very well and i receive accolades from manager and my team members as well. But whenever i discuss my growth ideas with manager, i always receive same feedback i.e. i need to know about the other peoples are working on which task and i need to provide feedback in design discussion call. I am bit confused. I know on very high level about the task but not very much context. And i always provides my pov in design discussion if i am aware of that particular thing. My of our team member's work doesn't overlap with each other. In that case for me it is very hard to share my pov as i don't have more context. Any suggestions how can i overcome two above problems. I am currently doing my internship at Amazon which is most likely not gonna get converted to a full time offer (provided the market conditions), I have another offer from EY for the role of Technology Consultant which would mainly involve work in data analysis. I have heard that it will be very tough to come back to an sde role from a consultant role. So I am in a dilemma of what to do next?
P.S. I am more inclined towards an SDE role due to the growth it provides.

I am a 2023 cs grad ,joined an mnc at 7 .44  base 12 CTC,worked there for an year(6months internship+6months full time)
Switched to a series a startup at 16.35l base all fixed ,it's been 3 months now and the wlb is very agreesive although the learnings is good and I am working on core genai,llms,classical models,but want to switch to a chill minc with a. Decent 30 percent hike
Is it fine? Will it look good on resume?

So, I got placed on-campus as an analyst and it's about to be a year since.
While I don't hate the work I do and have excellent work life balance (unsure if i require it tbh 😅), I feel I can better showcase and hone my skills in a software development role, given that I have a degree in computer science and simply, enjoy coding (I've automated nearly every task I have been given as an analyst at my current job.)

I'm looking to join a fast-paced environment by the 2nd half of this year.

Hey everyone, I am a final year B.tech student. 
Currently I don't have a job and to be honest I haven't done that much DSA to get a job, so its a request from you guys to help me out that is it too late to start now? 
I know I am responsible for this thing but I can't sit disheartened and not do anything I still have time till june untill I graduate. Can you guys help me find a path and consistency to get a job as a SDE. I have very less DSA knowledge just know the basics which isn't enough but I am now practicing and learning daily to skill up, will I be able to learn that much to get a job or internship till june. 
If you guys have opening in your company maybe you can give me a referral or something I have the willingness and motivation to do something and learn also I have a strong resume and internship experience in a big company.

Need some guidance

Last December there were planned layoffs at Cisco which was known to everyone in advance along with the dates and the percentage of people to be laid off. This seemed fair at the time.

Now they have laid off people on a random Monday with no prior information or any talks in the company about the same, managers just told that people who are affected have been informed and not to spread rumours, etc (all managers lingo).

Most people were in a higher position in Tech and PMs(as per what I have heard), but surprisingly the managers were not involved and no one knows the criteria of layoff(upper execs did the layoffs). The performance issue was not the cause(confirmed by the manager) then what is the criteria?

Does anyone here have any idea what these people see when they do the layoffs? Assuming the project is still on, and the person did not have any performance issues? I am curious.

FYI - I wasn't affected (luckily).

Hi, I am in my final year of my B.Tech and I just got to know that I won't be getting PPO/Full time offers from two Internships due to no opening in the ML team  for both the Internships. (Market down).

It really feels bad to have wasted my time (1year) over the internship, in the end to get nothing. 

I would be glad if someone could help me get referal for ML Roles (Computer vison, NLP, any would work).

Machine Learning Engineer

I have seen from the place I work at that growth (in terms of monetory benefits and opportunities) is much better for SDE folks than Data Science people.

1. For freshers it's easy to learn to write css and get complete responsibility of a task henceforth on completion getting more recognition and praise than in Data Science. Good tasks are almost never given directly to freshers due to steep learning curve in the field hence leading to lower growth rate.

2. SDE folks generally have tasks divided into sprints which make them a lot more easily trackable and appreciable at reviews, whereas in DS at least at the place I have worked tasks are given haphazardly and almost never account to much while reviews.

3. Another observation is that folks who have worked for about 3-4 years in SDE profiles have now become team leads whereas DS folks have not been promoted at the same pace 

Looking at all this, in my opinion data science folks are treated as second class citizens as compared to sde folks.

All this might not be true for all the firms, and I want to know if anyone else has some views on this.

I'm frustrated!

Growth In Data Science vs SDE profile for freshers

Basically the title. Given the new round of layoffs, I'm feeling uncertain.

Got an SDE internship at Amazon RBS(retail business) team at Bangalore. Are they offering PPOs?

Currently an intern for a XYZ company, pretty good, compensation is pretty good, I'm an SDE intern, the team which im in is platform engineering, should I switch the role which has something more based on the heavy coding side?

I don't see myself beyond 5 years here, would this team matter when it comes while making a switch?

Advice needed for intern role

I am not able to decide which one to choose. The Groww internship is guaranteed that if I perform well I will get PPO(15 LPA) and swiggy one is dicy if even it does have PPO. Since only one more month is left for my graduation, taking any of these internships will require me to leave the FTE offer. Any suggestions fellow developers??

I recently got placed in a good product based company and was assigned in Data Engineering team 1-2 weeks ago as an intern.

I always wanted to be a Software Development Engineer and I really like to develop applications, websites etc and I also really enjoy it. I even purchased an expensive system design book to learn and implement how they build scalable apps etc because I find it very interesting.

I never persued the data domain because I don't like stats and all the maths. Avoided AI/ML in college. Sure, I can work and learn about it in my free time, but I don't prefer it as a job right now.

I couldn't develop my interest in data engineering after researching about it online for hours. Yes, the stack is cool and different, they build pipelines and all but it looks boring to me. I also read few comments saying that freshers are rarely hired for this role and one should work as an sde for few years before switching to this domain, and also they are paid ≤ SDEs depending on the company.

What should I do now? Please guide me seniors🙏 Am I stuck in this forever or can I switch to SDE anytime I want? I am open to trying this role but then I am also scared that it'd may be too late or too hard to switch to SDE by then..?

P.s. This is my first job, never worked in a company before so I don't know how things work.

I got hired at a startup for Backend engineer  Intern  but I switched to DevOps as an Intern there Now I don’t find the profile that Interesting maybe because DevOps is paid less money to be honest I feel like I should switch back to backend but it’s now 1 year from there today
