Why do you want to be layoff proof? Be pro at getting-hired. That should give u Max monetary benefits. Severance + pay hike. I have gotten both in past to speaking from experience.
You cannot be layoff proof ever. When an incompetent people become part of senior management layer, they know that to improve the margins one thing that they can do is to cut cost and the easiest way to do the same os layoff. That way cost is reduced, margins show slight improvement, these people get huge bonuses and then they leave !

Bhai. Banks are the OG hire and fire firms.
The highest cyclical firms who constantly monitor ROI have a Roadies like voteout every year end. Citi aur Barclays ka example mat de as if they are SBI.
If you wanna be layoff proof be In function which doesn't correlate to revenues (Risk/Compliance & Technology in non-Tech firms) and in an industry/geography which do not prioritise profits (read Japan/Korea and public sector, research)

No we cant, not possible.
No amount of upskilling can save from being laid off, look at the hordes of top tier swe kicked out unceremoniously in most humiliating manner.

I would suggest being in sync with market demand, it won't make you layoff proof (as it's almost impossible to achieve).
But it will certainly make you worry free about layoffs, because in case of layoff you will be able to get the new opportunity easily.
So I am safe doing boring work for Novartis , manufacturing farm even sales org like png etc

Layoffs = High Growth 📈
Welcome to 2nd month of 2024. After Big tech like Amazon, alphabet and Microsoft now big telecom firms are also following the suit. After Ericson and Nokia, Cisco has decided to lay off 1000s of employees... Do u agree that firing employees will boost growth in all cases?? If yes, how safe r u!
