I came across a reel on Youtube and then cross checked it. Some facts are just mind blowing.There is a temple in Maharashtra known as 'Kailasa Temple'.

1. It was carved out from the top. Just imagine a 3 floor building with elaborate carvings carved out of rock from the top with over 100's of stone images, pillars and other craft.

2. They removed over 2M tons of rock in the process.

3. It took them more than 135 years to finish this job. Just imagine 4,5 generations sticking to the same plan with no blueprint without any technology and with just hammer and chisel, not from the front or bottom but from the top.

It is the most incredible piece of engineering that human beings have done on this Planet.

India is truly a land of wonder but we are the worst marketers.

I was to give an interview for a post-graduate degree abroad, and right up until today morning I still had mixed feelings about leaving the country. The first startup I worked in was built on the idea of Digital India and right up until my last employer, I believed and wholeheartedly bought into the future of this country. 

Until the events of the last few years. Our family was extorted for money (through threats to demolish our home under false pretences) leading up to elections in Bangalore by a BJP MLA and his corrupt crew. My entire layout has become a hotbed of Hindutva nationalism to the extent that some Muslim households keep their curtains permanently closed and sadly I've lost some very good friends simply because I didn't side with them or chose to remain apolitical. 

But I think the last straw was today. I don't know why but today of all days I've made the decision emotionally to quit India. 

To be clear I have no issues with the temple and frankly, I don't know enough to battle the inevitable "you're not a true Indian/Hindu" comments that will follow this post. It's just that I have this sinking feeling we have now so thoroughly mixed politics with religion that we will never go back from here. If you think this is a victory for Hindus fair enough, but it also feels like a loss for a secular nation. 

Am I alone or wrong in feeling this way?

PS: If you want to debate, please do with some sensible comments. It has taken a lot for me to come and post this here even if it is anonymous. I would greatly appreciate it if we could have a conversation and not a put-down contest.

Are we ruined to the core? I get this question often when I see VIP cultures in our religious places, especially temples. Before “any” brigade jumps over me. The temple culture in question is “Ram Janambhoomi, Ayodhya”. 

On one side our PM claims he wants to remove VIP culture, other side they have VIP culture/lane exploited in Ayodhya. I understand some “busy” individuals need to accelerate through temple queues because they have important work to complete. Here the discrimination is at the next level, in the VIP lane gutkha stuffed people can take phones, and pose selfies and in “cattle class” you can’t even carry phones. No, I don’t need selfies for myself but it looks a bit weird when a particular class is allowed to do so in a sanctimonious place😂 

Looks like the security threat comes from the class itself🤨

P.S. - I don't have any place other than this to rant/complain about. So, feel free to suggest.

We'll probably get to the #3 spot if things go well. But it seems impossible that we'll ever go beyond that.

Internal reasons that are very hard to fix:-

(1) Our population TFR fell below standard replacement rate in 2023. This means we will not be able to follow the same economic growth trajectory required to reach developed status before population stagnation or declination. This is not a death knell but definitely very VERY bad news.

(2) Our blue-collar workforce skill levels are not only subpar but are slowly falling behind the world standards every year. Much of our youth aim to join government orgs like the Army or the Railways which train for the job later, not before. Despite a national shortage of skilled plumbers, electricians etc, our vocational training orgs have been unsuccessful in attracting people towards these careers as well as churning out skilled workers.

(3) Our bureaucratic environment is extremely slow with pathetic turnaround times on initiatives. This is not government specific and has always been the case so it seems like this will always be. This is not even a problem unique to India as many other countries have been facing this too but it is still a factor that negatively impacts our growth massively.

I wish it was just internal reasons but a large part of it also comes down to both China and US being aggressively great at ensuring their successes:-

(1) Chinese manufacturing seems nearly impossible to overcome - not just for India but also for the US. Yes, we might win over some industries and companies like the US, Vietnam, Thailand etc. have been doing but the amount of autocratic control in China allows them to crush competition easily. Case in point - the recent tussle between India and China on solar manufacturing which China won by autocratically lowering their prices.

(2) If de-dollarisation succeeds, it will benefit China the most because (contd. in comments)
