Thoughts on "190km Road Tunnel Planned For Bengaluru"
I was reading some news and found out that the government has proposed a 190km underground tunnel to ease traffic. Do you think these projects can actually come into life in india? Or is it going to be another vote bank stunt
Upar se metro nahi ho raha 5 saal se aur tunnel hoga 190km ka.๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ. Ye Sab joomla he
Iโm not being pessimistic, but if the metro construction and ever going repair of roads is something to base your judgement on, the tunnel is going to be one big money pit.
Folks are not able to complete a half-complete flyover, ensure metro is fully operational and ensure roads donโt have potholes but want to build a tunnel.
This is literally me and my 10 side projects that are a fork of a flutter starter kit with name and theme changed, when Iโm thinking of a 11th one. ๐
The longest existing tunnel in the world is 25 km and is in Norway. Norwayโs per capita income is 85000 USD. Indiaโs per capita income is 7000 USD. Make of it what you will.

Kids, gather around and let me tell you a story.
In the late 90s, BBMP floated a tender for the Domlur flyover. Tender was won by UP state bridge corporation. They were the premier bridge builders in the country (still are) because of their expertise in building large span cross river bridges.
Not surprisingly bridge got delayed.
First for a couple of years because steel prices went up steeply and the project turned unviable for UPSBC.
Second, because when they had built most of it after 5 years of toil and commuters could see light at the end of the bridge, they realised that the two ramps are fundamentally misaligned. Bridge was torn down and built again.
What fun.
And we're talking about BBMP executing a world class mother of all underground tunnels.
Most of the people on this platform don't understand politics deeply (or are too young to remember history). You're dealing with a party who has committed some of the worst scams in India's history.
Cut to today - you have LS elections in 1 year. KA is the only industrialized state in that party's kitty. How would you as an election manager raise funds for elections? You will target the richest city of that state & milk it max. You'll announce big, very big projects so that you can get % of the contract value in tender process. And the best part - it'll have no political implications as majority population of the city doesn't vote (in fact voted for the other party).

"40% commission" was always propaganda amplified by pliant Con ecosystem media dalals, aimed at the urban Bangalore electorate. It failed as BJP did a splendid performance in Blr. Can't take this seriously anymore given Con Karnataka govt. has not taken any step against the previous allegations. In reality, we do have this major problem now:

190KM tunnel roads? Even if we were to assume that the Congress admin is not woefully pathetic at efficient governance, which is certainly not true, WHERE is the money to fund it? Karnataka govt. is going on a loony freebies binge depriving the funds to the much needed development sector. DK Shivakumar himself has admitted that there are hardly any funds for development.
Let's now discuss the politics, which it solely is. The 190 KM tunnel roads are a gimmick. DK Shivakumar wants to set forth a legacy to help establish himself as the next CM contender (Congress is playing up Priyank Kharge who recently supported Dayanidhi Stalin in his 'Eradicate Hindu Dharma' resolve). When Congress was in power before now, we all know how the metro construction works came to a snail's pace. It only received a great amount of fillip during the last 3-4 years of BJP rule. We are already witnessing a more or less done and dusted metro corridor inauguration getting pushed back by 6-7 months and counting under the new dispensation. Constructing underground tunnels is a several times more ambitious project because it is that much more expensive and challenging to do. I think DKS will still go ahead with it, but it will be a stillborn project before the dust settles on it.

This will never happen. Its probably a distraction. Some negotiation will happen. and a completely different project will be announced.
To be honest, if the government is planning this project then it's better to create a new smart city which can have this tunneling underground. It's not possible to do within the Bangalore city
Traffic problem is not solved by roads, its solved using better, more accessible public transport which even the higher strata of the society will be interested in using. The solution is to reduce cars, not increase roads, this is because buying a car is easier for the common man than it is to make roads by the govt.

Ppl are forgetting one basic theory that the metro overhead construction is happening citing fund crunch and that underground metro costs 3-4 times more and so the entire city has to go through this nightmare metro construction from last 15 yrs. but now, out of a miracle, they have funds to construct tunnel road. If they have fund, why not construct underground metros and take as many yrs as they want as no ones are getting bothered. This is pegged at 50k crore project as of now and can sustain politicians for next 5 generations. Parties need funds for election and their families and the royal families.
Next level bakchodi. Public transaport toh sambhal nai rha road banaenge.
