Hey there
I am a 2021 graduate. Have worked for 1 year in an ed-tech giant and another year at a startup.
Had a brilliant time in startup, learnt a lot and enjoyed every bit of it until couple of months back, when there were layoffs and some part of the team was asked to leave.
Now I don't enjoy working here because of high amount of work, no wlb and no people to chill with and planning to switch. But with current market scenarios not sure if that's the right choice.
I am also thinking to do an MBA next year probably from tier 1 tier 2 colleges. 
What according to you would be the best path or what you'd have chosen to do here?

Hi, I am currently 22, graduated recently from a tier 2 institute and currently working at a US based startup earning 18lpa ( almost all base ) + rsu's, lately my family have been nagging me to do a postgrad, I am confused weather I should do an MBA, MS or not do a postgrad at all considering the years I will miss in workex. 

What should be my best course of action considering ROI in the next 10-15 years ?? 

P.S. Currently I am not sure what my interest lies in, but just try to excel at whatever comes my way.

What is one career mistake or decision you’re glad you avoided?

One of the best decisions I made was dodging my ex-manager when she moved to CTS as an SD. She pulled her entire previous team under her, tried her best to convince me too, but I’d had enough from the last program and stayed clear, dint go. Now, all those who followed her are struggling, except her little favorites. She joined as a Director and fast-tracked to SD by setting up a COE in just one year. Meanwhile, the others are stuck in a mess, listening to her “I gave you life, be grateful” speech like modern-day slaves, caught between a rock and a “please worship me” wall. that’s one circus I’m glad I skipped!🤣🤣🤣 
  
 From that point on, I decided no more chasing after previous managers. You’ll just end up stuck forever, hearing the classic “I gave you life, I brought you here, and now you’ve betrayed me” drama. Not falling for that trap🤩!

Current state - I work as a PM intern at a startup. We shipped a major release few months back and since then I barely have any work. It's an ops heavy startup, so the work we do is just supplementary and I'm not making a huge impact anymore. I'm one of the select remote workers here and I've been with the org for the last 2 yrs, working parallelly alongside my college. Initially the work was exciting but now it has died down. The org has a okayish culture. There's no downside but limited upside as well. Pay is pretty good for me (considering I work <2hrs/week) but below average for fulltimers.

A little context - I'm pursuing an integrated(5yr) degree from a reputed B-school in Mumbai and I'll be graduating coming July. The placement cycle will start soon but I'm extremely unsure of what I want to go ahead with. I have varied interest. I like to tinker and play around with things. I've built successful social media pages & YT channels in the past. I've freelanced in digital marketing, web development and made decent money out of it. I've built chrome extensions and apps with several thousand users. I feel like I also have interest in web3, strategy, founders office and consulting roles. Few months back, I got an offer from a DeFi company, however they receded it once they realised I still have more than a year left to graduate.  

The confusion - I feel like I should leave my current org as there's no more learning here. However, I don't know in which direction should I proceed after that. The only thing I'm sure of is I'm not built for big corporates. I enjoy working with high ownership and small sized startups seem like the only option. I have 8 months of college left and I'll have to start looking for jobs within next 1-2months. (continued in comments)

Hi folks, looking seriously for a job switch as a PM primarily in the fintech space.

Highlights about myself:
-> I have ~ 3.5 years of work ex.
-> Entrepreneurial stint in the wealth management space where we were trying to build an AI assistant to automate everyone' s personal finance. 
-> MBA From ISB post closing the startup due to regulatory slowdown 
-> Wanted to get a PM role in the campus placement but, due to market conditions, got a job as program manager in a lending startup. I had high hopes from it but it turned out to be utter disappointment on many levels. 

I know the market is not great right now but I am optimistic that it's not that bad. 

Any help or referral would be really appreciated :)

Working at an NBFC in an MD's office role- Strategy Consultant since then.

Having done multiple projects for the company, I now want to switch to a consulting company where I can have a more diversified set of projects. 

But the market being the way it is, I'm not able to find reasonably good opportunities on LinkedIn. 

How do I go about the whole thing then? Would be grateful for any suggestion or referrals.

I have worked hard to have a stellar profile (tier 2 Engineering graduate and tier 1 MBA graduate). I have 2 years of pre-MBA experience and will be completing 1 year post-MBA in a few months, at which point i plan on putting in my papers. Being in this rat race has taken it's toll. I am depressed and dread logging into work everyday. It's come to a point where every small task feels like a burden. I have decent amount of savings and I can support myself during the time off. My parents and friends don't seem very excited by this decision of mine, but they are not in my shoes and do not understand what I am feeling. Would love to hear other people's stories/opinions on this.

Side projects and hobbies that once brought joy now seem like monumental tasks. The energy to code for fun is gone, replaced by a numbness that Instagram barely alleviates. 

I was drawn to it to be doing something that’s helpful for others, something fun, a hard challenge or impactful.

But the best opportunities have landed me in soul-less projects. No impact, no appreciation, no engaging challenge. Just a cog in the machine. 

Life goes by in the 1030 - 8. Barely making the money to give back to my family and save up to get married. I can’t afford posh restaurants, have no time for hobbies or sports.

Feels like I am getting nothing in life. No money, no meaning, no fun, no passion, no societal status.

Lost interest in coding & tech after joining Infosys

Started off as a BD guy in a startup who switched to the SDET role in 9 months in the same company and spent 3 yrs in total. This startup became a unicorn during my tenure and launched different countries as well. Famous for good reasons, doesn't lay off at all. 

I went for a Tier 1 MBA, got campus placed and working with a tech consulting company which brands their POs as PMs. Amazing work life balance, completely remote but pays less (18+1.5). 

Keep having a feeling that I'm paid less compared to the skills I carry because of the startup background. Been here for almost a year. Am I underpaid?

Should I wait for the appraisal cycle in June or start prepping and looking outside? Or am I overthinking and foregoing the great WLB and permanent WFH which this company provides?

Wait or Switch?

While over the years, I was chasing Investment Banking and Consulting roles, realised how underrated AM is as a profession.

Surely not as lucrative as IBD in terms of pay and prestige, but it is a sweet career path. The anxiety due to working into consulting became unbearable after a certain point and I realised that it's good, the growth is nice with decent pay but I don't think I can handle the stress of clocking 60+ hours a week and it's better to leave than being completely burned out.

In AM, I make much more than I used to make in consulting. I barely work 40-42 hours a week compared to 60+ in my consulting days with much more job stability and a better work environment. It's not all roses. There are days when there is a bit of pressure but these days are far and few in between and are much less brutal. I have enough time now to do whatever I want. Gym in the morning. Office at 10 and a game of tennis is the evening after work. Not to mention, I have enough time to spend with family.

I talk to my friends working in IBD on a daily basis and frequent rants about poor quality of life is now a part of our daily conversations.

I finally reached at a point when I realised that I should stop running after higher pay and start considering other aspects of life. Not saying that one should stop chasing money, but just the compensation should not be the only factor. All that money is of no use when you don't have the time to spend it with the same set of people you are earning this money for.
