A friend of mine was dating a girl, convinced his parents to offer marriage. But girl chickened out last minute, married one her father had chosen. This really fucked him up, he was determined to get married anyhow, whom didn't matter. 
1 Yr later, found a girl parents found, got pregnant before first anniversary. Over 3 years, their marriage has seen divorce, domestic violence and 5 star hotel celebrations (oscillated to extremes of good and bad)

I'm seeing another such case.
Office colleagues were dating, he proposed marriage, she declined. He said stuff that shouldn't have been said, she threatened POSH (did not complain officially)
2 months later, he has found someone to marry through arrange marriage route 

Break ups are bad, but half of the problem were you. Instead of working on that, people take it on ego

Rebound marriages are the worst

Just sharing for everybody. I personally meditate every now & then or do NSDR. Since I started this practice, I'm baffled at how anxious/in a rush I used to be about everything.

Examples: 
- Wake up in the morning, be in a rush to take a get ready
- Be in a rush to book Uber, anxiously looking at my phone
- Would get done with lunch/dinner in 5-10 mins, sometimes not even appreciating what had been made

It's gotten much better. But I feel this happens with too many of us. Please, just take a moment of calm. Breathe. The world will move with or without you, you need to find your calm.

So i started working with zee5 as a Smart TV developer right out of college. After about 2 years, in March 2024, layoffs happened due the merger between Sony and Zee was called off.

So i was looking for Software developer
opportunities, after multiple rejections, hundreds of application, got a decent offer from To The New for the same position of Smart TV developer. I am also getting some raise on the previous CTC, which i am glad considering the current market situation.

So i just wanted to ask about the org To The New, how its work culture is ? Also like what are the growth prospects there ? Also since technically it provides service to other big techs. 
So will it be an issue if i want to switch to a better product based company.

I have worked hard to have a stellar profile (tier 2 Engineering graduate and tier 1 MBA graduate). I have 2 years of pre-MBA experience and will be completing 1 year post-MBA in a few months, at which point i plan on putting in my papers. Being in this rat race has taken it's toll. I am depressed and dread logging into work everyday. It's come to a point where every small task feels like a burden. I have decent amount of savings and I can support myself during the time off. My parents and friends don't seem very excited by this decision of mine, but they are not in my shoes and do not understand what I am feeling. Would love to hear other people's stories/opinions on this.

Want to discuss if sabbatical being a taboo is valid and peoples opinions of it.
I will start with mine
Background - 
8 years in tech 
3 company switches 
Sabbatical of 1 month, 3 month and 6 month between each break.
Personal experience - quite enriching. Though there was panic and anxiety of not having a job during the period, it truly helped me take a step back, reassess my career trajectory, and mostly just Destress and re prioritise

Every now and then i loose my true love for tech and product and the sabbaticals helped me to rediscover that by just reading about technology that was not outcome driven ( like for switching a job) 
Quite rewarding each time in terms of salary jumps also. I think i was able to make a better case for myself at a particular position just because i had more time to process stuff from last job. 
It also helped me make better decisions for next thing which has in general helped me shape my career better ( i think atleast)

I've always been someone who's had to think well before I spoke. Unless it's something I'm very well aware of (ex: my day to day work), I take time, first to make up the words in my head and then deliver. This delay, is something I want to work on.
If you've been in my place at some point, what made you change; and improve on your communication? 
I don't think this is hindering my abilities at work, but it certainly does - in connecting with new people and in all the non-work comms.

Ppl that have taken 3+ months of sabbaticals for burn out have you felt better after that ? I have to take a decision btw sabbatical for 3 months or quitting. While I like my current work place and manager I am not sure if by taking a sabbatical I am forcing myself to feel better in 3 months. This is a troubling attitude I have towards sickness mental or physical where I put a future end date to it and then feel worse off if I don't meet it.

Was thinking about our lives. Ever since you are in school, you have something to look forward to. When you’re in 1st grade, you know next year it’s 2nd grade and so on till you finish your undergrad.

Suddenly, you could be everything or nothing at the same time.

Those who are good at this game of eternal growth end up grinding their lives away in the PCM -> Engg -> B-School -> Consulting hell loop.

Weirdly, the determinism in growth fades away suddenly and you see people finally pursuing diverse fields.

Then, the realisation kicks in. You’ve been conditioned to chase eternal growth. That is what brings meaning to you in every part of your life. Today has to be better than your yesterday, or else it feels like you’ve failed.

I wonder how sustainable that is but till then we will continue to throw our youth away. 

My 2 cents: You have a brief moment in history. Don’t spend your 10 years of prime in doing things that don’t bring you any joy. Don’t make the same mistakes all of us make chasing joys because others are chasing them.

Find your own meaning to this eternal growth.

Is life a race for eternal growth?

So I might get some hate for this. I know this is weakness and the feedback I've gotten is toughen up. But I've never known how.
 Is there anyone else whose body and mind had accepted that they're not going to amount to anything but fought their way through it? Can you tell me your story? Or give me any book suggestions?

I shut down under pressure

My advice is simple. Spite. Hate the situation so much that you come out of that, or conquer it with pure spite. The Hatred of ever being found in such a situation will propel you towards success.

A quick note for today. Over the years, being a generalist, I've realized that it's very tough to know when we're bringing the right impact or not. 

In the case of Devs/Designers/Other specialists: The output is quicker and tells the story - an amazing UI/UX, or building well working products. 

For generalists, the feedback loop is much longer, it's very unclear what it will amount to (especially at startups), it's the reason why being a generalist is looked down upon, by some people. 

My realization has been this: over a 1-2 year period, when you look back at your work, it's the picking that determines how you feel about what you did. And also how others feel about how you did.

PICKING: Knowing what to work on. What to A/B test. What 0 to 1s to pursue. Should you prioritize product idea A or product idea B. Should you experiment with growth channel A or growth channel B. 
EXECUTION: Taking what you pick from 0 to 1. Knowing when to take it from 1-10. Working to make it happen. 

Eventually, most days are execution days. Whether you do good work depends on how well researched & well thought out the 'picking' was. 

So pick well, don't under-invest in that stage. Take out time every now and then to course correct. 

Know what to pick.
