Hello everyone,

Saw quite some people doing AMAs on this platform from VCs to Engineers, but nobody from Founder's Office roles.

Knowing that this role is somewhat new in the job market, not many people still know a lot about it. Shoot your questions, would answer them to the best of my capacity.

Background: Worked in the FO role for 2 FMCG brands, before joining a Fintech where I am working right now. Graduated from BIT, Mesra in 2021, but started working alongside my graduation coz of COVID.

Grapeviners, can you, with all honesty convince a non-believer like me into getting married and having children. If you do, my parents will send a million blessings your way. 

About me: 
- Female, 28
- mostly introverted, very selectively extroverted
- single and normally attractive
- Jinxed when it comes to relationships
- Financially independent, Net worth: 1 cr
- not bragging, but I'm decently intellectual and I can have smart conversations

My reason to resist marriage is: I'm scared it won't work out and will cause bigger problems than being single. Have seen too many unhappy marriages in family and friends. Dating scenes in recent times have only made things even more unimpressive.

Convince me to get married

After a few failed relationships, I had an arranged marriage (at that time, it was just to fulfill what my parents wanted). She was a very conventional girl,, never had any relationship before. I was scared going into the marriage too. 
  
 5 years later, she is the best thing that has happened to me. She helped me explore things I never would have. She gave my life a different perspective. 
  
 I'm not saying just because it happened to me, it could happen to you too. I'm saying unless you take the leap you'll never know what you're missing out on.

So i was in a mall having lunch with my family. Two girls came and sat on a seat that was right in front me for them i was sitting at a 90 degree angle. While i was having lunch i just caught one the girls looking at me. At first i thought she must be looking at someone behind me or there would be something behind me so i proceeded to not care and carry on with my lunch. After a couple of mins i caught her glance again and she was still looking at the same direction. This time i looked back to see and verify was there actually someone or something behind me. There was nothing but a path where people were walking by i again ignored and carried on with my lunch.
A couple of mins later out of sheer curiosity i looked at her direction and this time i again caught her looking at me. Now i was sure that she was looking at me but such a looser that i am had absolutely no guts to give a smile to her gaze at least. I thought my mother who was sitting next to me would ask me questions i got too shy and panicked. I looked at her for couple of seconds then looked the other way as if to say i am not interested in you. I so wished i was alone or with some friend i sure would have approached her. Who knows what it could have lead maybe. What are your opinion folks?? Do let me know.

Ah yes. This is totally related to Software Engineering. You couldn’t fix the bug, so move on and let others fix it.

I always wonder how ppl find it fun/ entertaining/ ok to be in casual relationship, fwb or just for timepass. 
Does it not feel cheap? 
Does it not feel gross?  Sort of modified modern prostitution. 
Does it not feel like being used/ taking advantage/ emotionally drained? 
Does it even feel safe- like a host of std will get exchanged.. 
What about the false cases if the others decide to charge with post breakup? 
How do ppl even take it so casually?

I've been looking for a job for a while now and I've applied to numerous companies on multiple job portals. Only 1% to 2% of companies respond to my applications, and even they don't go beyond the initial introduction call, at the end of which I'm told "we'll be in touch" but they never call back. I've tried referrals too but without any luck. I have 4 years of experience at KPMG (the only job I've ever had) as a consultant and I have an MBA from IIM Udaipur. I think my CV isn't terrible either. I've had it reviewed from friends, family, ex-colleagues, and seniors from my college, listened to their advice, made the changes and applied everywhere, but there's no change.

Help me. I would appreciate any and every advice y'all have to offer. Whether it's the bare minimum that I've been blind to all along or a couple extra miles, I wanna shoot a real shot.

Sharing frustrations with starting up a business. In my career I have raised over $30m over multiple rounds.

Co-founders in non-business roles get pushed out by politics. Sharing control with co-founders is messy, inconvenient, time consuming. Money lets you hire people who have to answer to you.

If you are not the main ‘Business person’ in a startup high chance you are disposable, no matter what skills you have. And it sucks to spend so much effort only to get bullied out and left with nothing.

Some investors will follow you on social media, if your business is not growing QoQ don’t post anything on social media that implies you are not working every weekend. They will ask why you are not working.

 If you are CEO, be ready for every random person to tell you how to run your business. Not in a ‘friendly advice’ kind of way, if you are the CEO you have a target on your back.

 Investors don’t know about your industry or have very dated knowledge. Some will just say random tips like ‘try web3’ or ‘try SaaS’ and blame you for following their advice when it fails.

 Your progress is measured against fraud companies who fake numbers, or the 1 in thousands who succeed. Get made to feel like you are failing to live up to super high expectations constantly.

 Employees work half your hours, off sick usuall one day a week, deliver next to nothing and expect 20% hikes every year because that’s what their friends make, or they read some dumb startup hires freshers at 20LPA. 

Smooth talking people with the same idea as you, no traction, never shipped a product in life, will raise a huge seed round due to 'pedigree' and spend it all on self promotion. You will always be compared to these clowns who find ways to lecture others while building nothing of value.

 This has become just more prevalent over time. Confidently advice learnings from startups that are faking GMV or PMF metrics :)

Since early childhood all I talked, watched and read was Technology. When I got home from school, I worked on C++ and built games by modelling physics, collisions etc. I frequented a ton of online forums for WebGL and other archaic tech that most of you don't even know about.

I knew all about the Silicon Valley, the stories and legends. I learned all about the history of technology and used to work deeply with my father with transistors, ECU/ECMs etc during weekends. 

I thought I knew it all. I thought I was the deal. I remember schooling folks about all of this, making them realise they are dumb as hell. I remember when I stepped into my MS in CS program and attended a club meeting, I realized that I was just like everybody else.

They were all the same as me in hindsight. They knew the same things and lived and breathed the same passion. I knew I wasn't special. For the first time, I suffered ego-death. I thought I was special, and I was not.

This is just a reminder, that you are not special. You are less unique than you think you are. So lose that attitude.

In a nutshell, we're just mental labourers and we're paid more than physical labourers not because  we're smarter, it is done in order to compensate for the compromised health (lowers your testosterone, fucks reward system of your brain, causes deficiency, anxiety, myopia, backpain).

- "We will get back to you" over and over again 
- 2YOE getting 95LPA
- Mom forwarding her friends' married kids pictures (dropping subtle hints)
- Attracting red flags, where efforts have dried up 
- Movies and shows watchlist growing, but guilt makes us think we are better off working
- Travel bucket is overflowing
- Personal projects have sided in a corner, because that ain’t getting anything
- Age is catching up and money is not 

How do you handle all this?! How!

Some background, I went to a T-1 school for my undergrad. Did many great internships and went to several hackathons around the globe. Made great money doing GSoC in my second year. I was the happiest back then. I was making more money than any of my friends, the world was for taking and I was Alexander, the world ripe for conquering.

Fast forward to today and I think I have done a disservice to my potential. Even if I still am the pot-smoking liberal teen that I was, I feel that I could have taken extreme risks when I was young. I could have still gotten my current job easily. I hardly work more than 3-4 hours in a day. I am always wondering what to do with my time and it feels like life has stagnated with nothing to look forward to except how much money I can realistically make over time. 

I feel when I look in the mirror, I am still the same person I was. Except, I have lost some hair ofcourse and some hair has turned white(blame bangalore water ig?). Here is my advice to anyone young, hungry, smart and ambitious...

You only miss the shots you never take. So take your chances and shoot your shots. No one cares about you as much as you do. So if you got one life, why wouldn't you make it the best movie that it can ever be?

Well some need to reach that level of earning to realize and be in a position to act upon it. You wouldn’t be lost if finance was ur biggest concern. All this mid life crisis happens when all ur needs are met. One fact remains that in ur movie of life u wouldn’t want to watch parts of urself when u r just chasing after money.
