If you work for a service company, and your code is part of the contract, there may be nothing you can do. 
 Else, cite some contractual limitation.

My job is to develop applications and dashboards for my clients. My client manager is an enthusiast. He asks for my base code which usually i don't share or pbix files for the dashboards which again I don't share. When I say i don't share it means we share frontend and not the backend.

Ideally, if I share the whole logic, he may find a different developer and modify my code, which might be legal but not a usual practice. Anyways my concern is that he tries to find faults with it which again is not something that he should be doing.

Do you think this is right? And anything I can do to make him stop this?

The interview was face to face. 
I was told explicitly that it'd be a hands on coding round. DSA and screening round was already completed. 
The guy who came to the interview basically had the same level of experience as mine. 

First, he asked me about if I've worked on microservices architecture. I said I have and mentioned details about a few projects.

Then, he told me: Since you've worked on AWS heavily, do you know the default timeout of a lambda? Told him, I don't remember exactly and gave him a wild guess. It was too wild it seems. My bad, should've just not spoken. I accept my mistake. 

Then he asked, what are the different services that can invoke a lambda. I mentioned sqs, sns, cloudwatch, dynamo db streams, etc. He's like, what specifically from a microservices perspective. I repeated SQS, SNS mainly. He's like, Lambda can be also invoked by other Lambdas which is what I was expecting you to answer. Great. Shouldn't have asked an open ended question if he was looking for exact answers, right ? 

Then a few other questions that I was able to generally respond, but maybe not with the level of exactitude that he was expecting. 

Then, he asked me to code up a few endpoints related to followers, following, posts and wall. I told him that in the interest of time, I'm trying to get the endpoints working instead of focussing on design and he said sure go ahead. I was genuinely under the impression that he wants to see if I know how to code, but he was testing my system design skills. He was obviously not happy seeing me cut corners. 

At the end during discussion he said you could've done correctly in a certain way. I said yes - It's obvious that it was the right way, but I only compromised on the design thinking you wanted to see my ability to actually understand the framework related stuff.

Six months back I started working on AI based  project which is an R&d from scratch when I completed stage one New people who are higher position than me started working with me to extend it to next phase I felt very happy but the things didn't happened in expected way. I thought they came to me to coloborate and help the project but I came to know at some point that they are just here to showcase the work I did, prepare ppts to explain clients. Moreover project manager showed favouritism by giving liberal tasks or already completed tasks which don't need any research to be done. I didnt focused on this because my focus is learning. I have completed phase 2 on my own which is converting to project, and when I completed it they started asking me to share code and provide KT this made me suspicious, So I didn't shared the code, dragged it for 2 months they tried to achieve by their own it didn't succeed for them so again they started asking me to share knowledge. I know if I share the code and give KT, I will be thrown out from this. They started ghosting me by doing prank calls like whether I am looking for an oppurtunity outside. After some days I decided this not my place to work, my focus should be on skills and solving problems with these politics in my initial stage of tech will not going to help in long run. So I shared and provided KT then next day I am released from the project. After few months I am asked to force resign because of being on bench.

I thinking to share these things to my CEO, along with proofs it upto them to take any action or not. The same thing happened to my colleague in another project. I don't want this to repeat for others.

Need your suggestion on this.

I work in a small startup, we have 10 people in Frontend Team. 2 SDE-2, rest all SDE-1. 
I joined as Sde-1, when I joined them, we were 4(2 SDE-2 and 2 SDE-1).

At the time of joining, they had a messy codebase, nobody cared about writing good, optimized code etc. 

Whenever I got chance to work on old feature, I used to re-write entire code from scratch, made reusable functions, components and moved common functionalities there, all these made the UI better, platform stable. 
Worked on optimization and performance. These folks never cared about all these things. 

Also started peer reviewing everyone's PRs, explained them various design patterns and made them write re-usable components, optimized, bug-free code and other things.

Now I came to know, all these efforts of my mine never reached my manager to due manipulation by one of the SDE-2. 

My manager likes this guy and allowed him to handle the FE team. 
This guy has shown that he's the one who took all these initiative and he got all these things done by the team. 
He involved the other SDE-2 in this game. 

Fast forward 1 year, I see most of my code has been slightly modified by him, moved to new file and my actual file is deleted. 
He has done this in order to remove my GitHub history. 
I'm now getting frustrated and don't know how to handle this. 

Resigning is not an option and raising with manager won't help as he's slightly biased and won't believe me. 

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey guys.

While I know that there is this ridiculous practice of getting candidates who are applying for upper middle to top management roles to do an assignment, has anyone who has done that experienced 'being taken advantage of'.

The reason I am asking is cause I have done a couple of them (putting in decent effort and feeling quite confident) and got no calls in return. What makes it even more shady is that I don't get feedback even after asking for it a couple of times. There was once when I saw the same inputs that I gave being put in practice which infuriated me.

Any inputs?

I work at a small startup that was acquired by a large corporate, primarily via high level contacts of the founders rather than technical due diligence. Founders and employees cash out big FAANG-level payslips without bothering about any actual work or revenue.

Being in my late 20s, I believe that our energetic youth should be spent on doing something that we are proud of, when we look back on our younger days. Imagine yourself in your 60s, and your grandchildren look up to and ask you about your life. I would definitely get depressed if I had to tell them that I did nothing of significance, just collected my salary.

In this context, I have been telling a few of my close colleagues how we can learn specific tech stacks which are in demand, in interesting domains that we can shift to, if applying to other companies. However, recently I came to know that some of these colleagues have shared screenshots of my conversations with management and claimed that I am violating company policy by apparently encouraging people to apply elsewhere.

Didn't see it playing out like this, so it's a shocker for me. Going forward, what would you suggest? Keep my mouth shut and be company policy-wise correct with people to avoid such backstabbers? Or should I continue to be honest and just change company myself?

Honest advice or political correctness?

I recently started a new job. I would like to share some of the experiences I have had with my manager. I am wondering if these are red flags or if I am maybe being paranoid or thinking too much.

It was quite difficult for me to get into this company and this job. The company is quite great and I was quite excited but some of the experiences I have had with my immediate manager have made me a bit apprehensive.
I would like to share them and hear opinions about it.

Here are some things which have happened which I have not liked so far - 

1. I speak to a Senior Engineer one day and next day my manager asks me if anyone asked me to speak to him. 
2. I shared an insight about a new tool which we can use on a deployment pipeline on the overall pod (under my skip manager). My manager immediately called me and started asking my status update and replied 'Discussing 1-1' in the group to prevent anyone getting visibility of the idea. 
3. My manager pings me whenever I go offline and recently he asked me in a passive aggressive way, 'Please monitor your Teams status. It was away for most of today.' I now feel kind of paranoid to never get up as I feel my Teams status is being monitored.

Is my manager too much of a micromanaging red flag ? I started a new job and my manager monitors my Teams online status.

I have an engineer on my team who thinks his way is the only correct way. He unnecessarily optimizes his code(For example, he uses methods with multiple params instead of passing the whole object), and adds an extra layer of validation even though the current validation works perfectly fine. He doesn't like if people comment on his PRs and complains that he is blocked by the comments. And the worst thing is, he isn't willing to change his code even if you justify your comments or explain the problems in detail. 

I'm fed up with this, I gave up multiple times out of frustration. And the technical owner of my team also doesn't want to argue with him. Being a senior engineer in my team, I'm not sure how to deal with this situation.

How to deal with a team mate with an inflated Ego?

I'm working as an APM at a startup for about a year now. I work with another guy who happens to be my senior, PM and both of us report to the director.

Of late, my senior, i.e., the PM has been undermining my work when the two of us are working together, subtly taunting me that what I've done is pretty easy and non impactful business wise. He also disregards the decisions made by me, modifies the PRDs discovered and written by me and mails them as his own.

Eventually, he ends up adding me to the walkthrough calls because I had discovered the features but then concludes everything such that he had owned everything end to end.

Recently, both of us were given a documentation to be done by our manager, i.e., the director. I had completed almost 70% of that document, but in our call with the director he presented it saying that he had written that document and I had made a few changes to it.

This undermines my work and visibility of my capabilities. I don't know how to tackle this situation, my manager is usually busy and leaves it upto this PM to allocate work, which he unfairly uses.

How do I talk to my manager about this. I'm fairly new to corporate, just graduated last year and don't know how to handle all this.

But this thing has been bothering me lately, really looking forward to any advise my fellow grapeviners may have.

Senior taking credit for my work

So one of my junior teammate always asks for help for few things. Actually he and some other folks don't have access to few portals and tools on Azure and Databases due to security policy.
While all the other folks who need access to same tools, do consiser the fact that I might be busy with my own work and ask for time when to connect. But this coworker starts a huddle out of nowhere, expects me to login at 11:00 PM at night, just messqges hello/hi without any context and doesn't stop messaging until I reply. He also talks in a manner like he's doing me a favor.
I know that me having access to tools means I should always unblock others, given it's not there fault they don't have access to it. My manager even tried to get them access but the security team to paranoid.

How to deal with this. Am I being rude here?

So thing is  In last 1 week my manager/project lead has been threating that you will have to work on weekend if you dont complete your task by friday and put the the task to testing.

I am fed up with people who try to steal other people’s credit. Be it your manager, your colleague or anyone how do you avoid them from taking your credit for the work you have done. Worst part is seeing them try hard to showcase it as their own. What do you all suggest for such situations?
