I recently joined a organisation 3 months back as an APM and I am not liking the culture of the company.
From growth perspective the company is good but some things that disturb the mental stability. The micromanagement of the company. Strict wfo 5 days 9 hours shift. No flexibility at all. Every month review with a ppt justifying your work. 
Work pressure is alot. 9hrs is getting 10 hours usually. I am not sure what should I do🥲

Hi , this post is intended to be a disclaimer to anyone who is planning to join Yubi. A lot of things are happening here that show some signs of an impending layoff

1) Several senior folks in tech and product have quit. Also there is no replacement hiring planned for them. Several projects are also getting shelved as a result.

2) there were several open roles a few weeks back and almost all of them are on hold as of now across all depts( tech , business , ops)

3) rampant cost cutting. The lunch options have been reduced to just 1 dal , 1 veg , rice and chapati.  Snacks have been removed too.


Because of several folks quitting in less than 6 months and no replacement hiring , load has increased tremendously on existing members who are themselves trying to leave. 

People have serious doubts on whether any hike or bonus will be given or not this year.

Work culture has become ultra toxic. Managers have started nano managing and literally are a pain in the ass. Product giving unrealistic timelines and leadership agreeing on the same without even consulting the developers and even if the developers are raising concerns, no fucks are given infact they are made to realise that this is how a startup should work. Literally everyone is working their asses off and still unable to meet the deadlines. Empathy is completely lost and WLB is a sham. People including me want to switch but are not even getting time to prepare.

This is all trickling down from the Leadership, they are trying to cut down costs by any means. Already had one round of layoffs, now they are doing silent layoffs in the form of PIPs. 
  
 Also, Leaders have lost the long term focus and are trying to find out more and more short term projects related to profitability.  
  
 There was always this pressure of work, but in the past 7-8 months this has become unbearable with no empathy in the organisation.

I'm feeling really stuck and frustrated at work lately. Despite putting in my best efforts and consistently performing well, it seems like my manager is feeling threatened by my progress. He’s been rejecting my ideas and work without even reviewing them, and calling me out in meetings for not completing non-priority tasks. For the past two years, I have been working as a software engineer at a service-based company. In this type of organization, employees are often assigned to different projects over time.

Currently, my manager, who also serves as the team lead, has been engaging in excessive micromanagement. They seem to be nitpicking and closely scrutinizing nearly every aspect of my work, which I find to be a very frustrating and stifling experience.

This level of micromanagement has made me feel uncomfortable and hindered my ability to work effectively. I am now considering changing jobs, as I believe this working environment is not conducive to my professional growth and development.

Given the challenges I'm facing with my manager's approach, I am wondering if it would be a good decision to seek employment elsewhere. I am contemplating this move in order to find a work environment that is better aligned with my needs and allows me to thrive as a software engineer.

How do you deal with extreme work pressure and a toxic working environment.
I'm just done with my current company the culture is so toxic that people are leaving left and right. Dev's are working even on weekends and are denied leave. If anybody raises their voice then disciplinary action mails are used as a threat.
Office politics and salaries getting hold. 
It came to a point I'm ready to resign without any offer in my hand and maybe Month's carrier break to work on myself and keep myself sane.

I want to know how you keep yourself sane and keep up with this shit show. 🙏

What's a toxic work culture like?

For context: Weekends are off. So just fri WFH. This is a Series B startup. I am not even asking for a leave but WFH for just 1 day. I joined recently. The only thing I did wrong was possibly informing a little too late.

Want to get opinion if I am overthinking or this classifies as toxic culture in startups where you are expected to push limits above and beyond regularly and sometimes weekends.

Not a great culture, also you don’t have to give the actual reason, instead say due to some unavoidable work or family health reason you will need to wfh. Its a good way of seeing what kind of employer one is, when they also treat urgencies like that. Indians feel they need to give a detailed explanation as to why they deserve wfh or leave, whereas in international companies, you just have to inform the manager.

I was told during covid that they will cut my salary in KPMG because they are doing it for all employees who are contractors.  
 I said fck it and left the job.  Got an opportunity with ey within next 1 month. Always have faith in your degree, your skillsets and your capabilities.

Want to get some perspective here because I think it’d be valuable to hear about other people’s experiences.
This job at Google has completely destroyed my confidence and I feel so paranoid about shipping anything now.
I have made some mistakes but I have always caught them in staging or working drafts.

Here is what my manager has said to me:
- I lack attention to detail.
- I do not have drive.
- I do not have any ambition.

And the reason I have been told this is because:
I messed up a flow that the Lead PM had come up with in the first place. Then the Lead PM flips back on me and says that it would be "an embarrassment" to ship this.

I find myself immersed in a constant cycle of spending hours each day reviewing work, gripped by the fear of facing criticism or even the prospect of being fired. Despite investing significant time and effort, it seems that the only feedback I receive is overwhelmingly negative. It has reached a point where I question myself and wonder if I should have not been here at all. This toxic work environment is undeniably draining, and I'm left grappling with insane anxiety. Has anyone else faced this?

Myself working in a E-commerce firm. Where CTO is such a hypocrite, he wants to control everything and everyone. Like Micro Management to the extreme. Any suggestions rather than leaving this job immediately.

It has been close to 5 years that i have been working at this company, the work culture is so bad, overworked, work for more than 12 hours every day, even working on all Sunday’s, it has been 5 years almost and i have not got a chance to take a holiday, don’t get to take my wide out, boss messages about work without even looking at the day or time, micro management is killing it, should i continue to work? I don’t have another job offer in hand but i am completely burned out.
