(Thread) What does balance mean for you? ☯
What does work life balance mean to you? What are things that you absolutely need to be doing to be happy? Could be succeeding at work, money, fitness, mental wellbeing, knowledge, family, and many other things We’re all figuring out, but what’s your current answer?
Mine:
1) Doing well at work - being recognised, making something meaningful at my level
2) Relationships - ensuring I get to spend time with friends/family
3) Parties - I like chilling often enough w/ people
4) Fitness - Playing a sport at least 2-3 times a week
Work is sorted out (for now)
It's the toll it takes on my personal life
Eating/drinking a lot, without any workout for weeks at stretch.
No matter how rewarding work becomes (money/value), life is not about this at all. There are simpler things to it.
At a high level, achieving better balance between professional and personal priorities boils down to a combination of questioning assumptions to increase self-awareness, recognising patterns that'll derail this balance when they present themselves and intentional role redefinition.
Eager to please Indians as a society suck at the latter. That screws up the balance that you desire the most.
Importantly for your specific question, this is not a one-time fix, but rather, a cycle that we must engage in continuously as our circumstances and priorities evolve.
