A friend of mine was dating a girl, convinced his parents to offer marriage. But girl chickened out last minute, married one her father had chosen. This really fucked him up, he was determined to get married anyhow, whom didn't matter. 
1 Yr later, found a girl parents found, got pregnant before first anniversary. Over 3 years, their marriage has seen divorce, domestic violence and 5 star hotel celebrations (oscillated to extremes of good and bad)

I'm seeing another such case.
Office colleagues were dating, he proposed marriage, she declined. He said stuff that shouldn't have been said, she threatened POSH (did not complain officially)
2 months later, he has found someone to marry through arrange marriage route 

Break ups are bad, but half of the problem were you. Instead of working on that, people take it on ego

Unmarried men, what is that you seek in your to-be spouse?

I am a 30 M , got married in 2020 and clearly the marriage was not working out. My wife and her mother was always finding ways to control me from the beginning with all the little things and my wife started this drama like with every fight she used to leave the house and stay at her mother’s and not comeback until all the parents gets involved and me asking sorry, one time she left the house because I cooked the curry and had asked her to do roti this turned into a fight and just for that she left the house. And her mother threatened me that she won’t send her daughter back until I ask sorry. There were LOT of these instances and at one point I really got fed up and started standing up for myself, in the last fight she said she won’t come back again and I said please don’t I am also tired of this. After a month she started reaching out to me asking sorry and apologies and all but I had lost all trust in the relationship and I wanted sometime. Even if I let her in her mother would have ruined the relationship again , so I asked her since I have no trust you have to agree on that in future if we get divorced if we have kids the kids stay with me and I won’t pay any alimony. Following this discussion she lodged a fake domestic violence and dowry case against me and my family. And I filed for divorce after I seeing police station and all. I have all the evidence to prove that I am innocent but the court is taking very very long time and now she is asking for for a huge amount only the she will agree for divorce 😣

Worst times for men! Better to be a monster than a hero

Anybody here who's in their late 20's and family is pressuring them to get married but you're not mentally ready for the responsibility because maybe first you want to achieve something or be in a better place mentally or financially.

For Indian families marriage is just a checkpoint on their long list of responsibilities like science in school, btech in college, gov vs pvt job and stuff. 

I guess marriage is much more than just a wedding. If you're not mentally ready to have a partner reasons could be multiple like maybe you want to achieve something before tying knot or maybe you want to be at a better place mentally or monetary.

Honestly i dont know how to frame this question 
I just need to know the perspectives of married as well unmarried people or maybe any advice.

Thoughts on marriage

Grapeviners, can you, with all honesty convince a non-believer like me into getting married and having children. If you do, my parents will send a million blessings your way.

- mostly introverted, very selectively extroverted
- single and normally attractive
- Jinxed when it comes to relationships
- Financially independent, Net worth: 1 cr
- not bragging, but I'm decently intellectual and I can have smart conversations

My reason to resist marriage is: I'm scared it won't work out and will cause bigger problems than being single. Have seen too many unhappy marriages in family and friends. Dating scenes in recent times have only made things even more unimpressive.

I'll go first: 
Heard about a married couple (married <1 year) and already separated (to be divorced). The wife hid her past and relationship from her family and in-laws. Husband asked about her relationships and she said she isn't in one. No pressure from the guy's family about marriage. Girl said yes and for months pretended to be excited about marriage. Post marriage, husband realised that she's cheating, excessive partying drinking, and smoking. Husband is in a disarray and suicidal.

Now I know there are both men and women like her (not making it a gender thing). But as a man looking for a partner/relationship/girlfriend, how do we be careful and what red and green flags should we look for, in a woman, while looking for a genuine relationship?

I have never been in a relationship and haven't talked to girls from the past 6 years for which I can remember correctly.
In my life till now I have approached two, which got declined citing religion, caste as barriers etc

I am a Jatt Sikh, and I am ugly and I accept that

Although it's foolish to think of that much ahead future, although I accepted that these things aren't for me and I will spend the rest of my life in tech and drawing stuff and gym and will explore other hobbies on the go

But still my mind constantly ponders me I will be lonely for the path ahead, and dual thoughts of even though I did get married, I will get cheated upon, getting scared of fake cases and will not find a vir*in

Plus I also get scared of even talking to women
Thinking the other gender has power to do what they want since laws are completely on their side

32+ M here and not yet married.

Life has become so dry and meaningless nowadays. Struggle connects us on some level. I’d love to hear your stories of struggle and how you overcame it.

Here’s my story.
I studied B.E for 7 years because of backlogs. Every year was a new batch, no friends. Extreme depression, humiliation everywhere. Isolated myself from an extremely judgmental society. 
Confidence had no meaning in my life. 
Somehow struggled and cleared all the backlogs. Studied programming and web design. Started working for free.
After 1 year, first salary was 2k per month.
Then 18k. Then 30k.
I always felt dumb because of the backlogs. Want to rectify it. So went to the US with the only admit I got. Studied my ass off. GPA 3.95. But I was broke again. Cried my eyes out multiple times because I had no money for food. Couldn’t tell this to parents.

Found a job later after many many applications. 
Happiest moment of achievement was when I bought my first 43 inch LED TV. With my own money.

Current pay: over 2L / mo.

-Tried through contacts, turned down
- Shaadi/Jeevansathi : No one is serious and the more options I get the more end up confused. Likewise for the other side.

Although in online I get plethora of options,I end up wasting time and money.

95% of the matches are doing window shopping.

This is way way harder then getting into FAANG.
