My manager is completely unpredictable. I don’t know what they want, they give me unclear instructions and often do a 180 degree turn when it comes to delivering it. They trivialise my work sometimes, don’t take feedback very well, at this point they’re taking revenge when I finally stood up for myself and explained my issues.

I have around 5 years of work experience and worked with various types of people but I’ve never worked for such a person. I even went to therapy just to see if something’s wrong with me instead. This situation is affecting my confidence a lot since I’m also new in the organisation and not able to settle down. 

Did you ever have such a manager and how did you deal with them?

Mine is an absolute piece of shit. Puts people down left right and centre. He just spent an hour trying to convince me how micromanaging is okay and I don't get to make decisions and how he tries to look good by taking all the decision making power since his team makes no mistake

My story -
So I switched to a startup last year. I was initially super excited in solving problems. Asking questions and just being curious about everything in general.
   Then, some incidents of my manager's behavior and team folks has turned me into a person who is so fucking afraid of now asking questions, doing tasks. My stakeholder communication sometimes I miss on, some things that seem to be pretty obvious had I been my competent self of previous organization, I am missing out on.
   I don't communicate well simply because I don't want to face my current manager and team. There's huge disconnect as well. I am not at all excited to work everyday. 
 
My friend was miserable in my previous org but now after switch he's damn happy and doing good!

I want to know if this is something that happens with you all? Or are you all like you fit in everywhere?
Or is it just My problem and my incompetence? Because I am always reminiscing my past org and my performance there was exceptional!

Has anyone ever faced a situation where you perform excellent in some org but not in another?

Is it advisable to give feedback to your manager ?

I am thinking of leaving my current job and focus on myself, getting to know myself better etc. Currently I have enough money saved for my expenses for next 6-8 months. 
   Everyone I have asked about this say don't leave your job if you don't have another lined up, in this tech winter. I understand their view point. It aligns with what my parents think as well.

Is there anyone who has had done this in the past? Do you recommend this route? Are the consequences far too severe? Does anyone have a different opinion from one stated above?

Anyone ever left job without having another job lying around for their mental peace?

I'm in the same boat, on the verge of quitting, and will most probably take the leap next month.

So, my friend wanted to take up task with other team, his manager didn't want it. So the manager took him among the other team members and publicly humiliated him showcasing that he is worried as fuck about the task in hand(he was just excited) and that they are putting pressure on him(they weren't)

I started thinking, if this happened with me, I don't have a comeback, but I wouldn't wanna stay with a manager who uses his own people to get ahead. Would you?

Currently, my manager, who also serves as the team lead, has been engaging in excessive micromanagement. They seem to be nitpicking and closely scrutinizing nearly every aspect of my work, which I find to be a very frustrating and stifling experience.

This level of micromanagement has made me feel uncomfortable and hindered my ability to work effectively. I am now considering changing jobs, as I believe this working environment is not conducive to my professional growth and development.

Given the challenges I'm facing with my manager's approach, I am wondering if it would be a good decision to seek employment elsewhere. I am contemplating this move in order to find a work environment that is better aligned with my needs and allows me to thrive as a software engineer.

I need your wisdom! I'm currently in an engineering team at my company, but I feel like a fish out of water (no learning at all). I’m constantly scratching my head trying to understand tasks and communications. It’s like everyone’s speaking in code – literally and figuratively!

My real passion? Data analytics. I dream of diving into data pools, not wrestling with the programming geeks. I've told my manager about my analytics ambitions, but I'm still stuck in my current role, learning things I know I won't use as an analyst. It doesn't even interest me to do a simple google search about the stuff they are using.
