What kind of DS work do you do?

I mostly worked on analytics, AB testing, recommendation systems, bit of NLP, deep learning but most of the time I have implemented tree based models as part of the work

Predominantly NLP. Very few XGB. But done it and pushed several of both into Production!

To be fair, I will tell you, Analytics is 2-3x harder than NLP.....

Now am in a semi startup I have to wear multiple hats. So analytics is big part of my work. And mannn it's not so simple anymore😄

I’d agree analytics is bit more ambiguous, usually open ended analysis, good business intuition helps. I’d find NLP field is hard to keep up with so many developments, so many papers to read if working on core research teams, certainly have good future with large language models gaining traction

But analytics especially dwelling into the ambiguity, it calls for massive discipline in analysis. I often forget the rules of not getting stuck on an idea and derailing the task of producing an analysis for discussion.

You have to know how to utilise your time judiciously in analytics. I mean it's required every where but in Analytics it gets even more pressing
